This is Frank Elmer O'Dell with his daughter Mary Spencer Nixon.  The story goes that Mary Elizabeth Spencer died in childbirth with her.  Some say in West Virginia, some say the Dakota's.  Eveyone has a differnt story.  They all agree though that she was adopted by a Doctor E. J. Nixon in Petersburg, West Virginia.  This picture was taken when Mary was one year old, aprox. 1911.   The story goes that she passed away before she married and that Frank Jr. went to the funeral.
