HP Malaysia's Yasmin quits to join Dell
Sources said Yasmin will likely to take over from Albert Loo, who has been promoted to a regional position. "Yasmin is one of the few top-ranking and high-profile women in a male-dominated IT industry and she is constantly head-hunted for managerial positions," they said. Last month, Yasmin had indicated her intentions to move to new pastures and explore other opportunities. Yasmin began her career as a product executive at Hewlett-Packard Sales Malaysia (HPSM) in the mid-80s. She left in early 1993 to join the public-listed Dataprep Group as general manager at Dataprep Retail Sdn Bhd. Dataprep Retail was responsible for operating the PC Unlimited computer superstore and Yasmin was instrumental in the set-up of Futurekids, a pioneering IT training franchise targetted at children. She rejoined HPSM in 1996 and moved up to her most recent position as general manager at its commercial channels organization. Sources said that a high-level meeting is being held today to find a candidate to fill her duties during the transitional period. The regional IT industry has been in rapid flux in recent months with a spate of high-level executives either job-hopping or moving to start-ups.
