3.  LT. COL. JOHN B.2 MCCLELLAND (JOHN B.1) was born 1740 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and died June 03, 1782 in Battle of Sandusky, Ohio.  He married MARTHA DALE November 12, 1759 in Pennsylvania.  She was born 1741 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and died January 01, 1822 in Fayette County, Pennsylvania.

Notes for LT. COL. JOHN B. MCCLELLAND:
In 1776, John was appointed to a citizen's committee to procure arms and ammunition for the defense of the county against the British as the sparks of the American Revolution were kindled. He with two of his sons John Jr. and Alexander enlisted in the Colonial Militia of Pennsylvania.
     When the Indians of the Western Frontier allied themselves with the British and began attacking settlers, John Sr. was commissioned a major and made third in command of an expedition to eliminate this menace. During the Battle of Sandusky, he with two other officers were captured tortured, and killed.
     A gruesome eyewitness account recorded in the Pennsylvania Archives details the manner in which the bodies of the prisoners "were dragged to the outside of the town and their carcasses given to the dogs while their limbs and heads were stuck on poles." Because of this sacrifice, the commission of Lt. Colonel was conferred upon him.

4.  ALEXANDER3 MCCLELLAND (LT. COL. JOHN B.2, JOHN B.1) was born 1762 in Wesmoreland, Pennsylvania, and died 1824 in Licking County, Ohio.  He married CATHERINE COURSON 1795 in Fayette, Pennsylvania, daughter of BENJAMIN REV. COURSON.  She was born 1766 in New Jersey, and died July 31, 1853 in Marion County, Illinois.

Notes for ALEXANDER MCCLELLAND:
After the victorious conclusion of the war, returned to Westmoreland County where he farmed  the 300 acres given him in appreciation of his military service. Here he courted and won the hand of Catharine, the daugher of Rev. Benjamin Coursen.
With his bride, Alexander pushed further west to Licking County, Ohio, and in 1795 entered land from the government, cleared the farm prospered and raised their nine children. (1) Isaac, who first married Sarah Welch then Mary Jane Collins.

Notes for RICHARD MCCLELLAND:
Richard McClelland was born in Licking Co., Oh in 1797 and died in 1825.  He married Asenath Paterson born in 1803 at Saco, Maine.  they were the Parents of Samuel I. McClelland (1823-1910), born in Licking Co., Oh and died in Burlington, WA.  He Married Zylpha Carter (1827-1850) in 1848 in Cass Co., IN and had a son, William (1850-1922_.  After Zylpha Carter died Samuel I. married her sister, Delia Ann Carter (1829-1905) in 1851 at Galveston, IN.  She was born in OH and died in West Bend, IA. They had 8 Children.
The second son of Richard McClelland was Isaac (1825-1888 born in Licking Co., OH and died in Palo Alto Co., IA  He married Nancy A. Charles in 1848 in Cass Co., OH and they had 7 children.  Nancy died and Isaac McClelland moved to Palo Alto Co., IA and married Sarah E. Power (1857-1920) in 1882 at West Bend, IA, and had 4 children.  Sarah E. Power was born at West Bend, IA and  died at Aroya, CO.

8.  ISAAC JOSIAH4 MCCLELLAND (ALEXANDER3, LT. COL. JOHN B.2, JOHN B.1) was born August 10, 1800 in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, and died March 19, 1881.  He married (1) MARY JANE COLLINS.    He married (2) SARAH "SALLY" WELCH January 06, 1824 in Walnut Hill, Jefferson Co., IL, daughter of THOMAS WELCH and REBECCA PROCTOR.  She was born 1800, and died 1848.

Notes for ISAAC JOSIAH MCCLELLAND:
Isaac McClelland was born in Pennsylvania and went to Ohio and from there to Illinois and settled at Walnut Hill about 1818.  He married Sarah "Sallie" Welch.  For the next few years he partially improved three or four places in Centralia township, but in 1830 he settled on section 32 (the Sandoval side of the township) and lived there many years and raised a family of six children.
Temporary as his residences were, his influence on Marion county was profound and lasting. From 1842 to 1848, he served as a county commissioner and from 1857-1861 he filled the office of county judge. For the last 22 years of his life, he was a justice of the peace.
     In 1867, Isaac, forseeing the growth of Centralia, purchased a sizeable parcel of land and laid out an addition in that community. From 1867 to 1870, he and a partner owned the "Centralia Democrat."
     Unsettled as this settler seemed to be, Isaac, at one time owned over 700 acres of land, engaged extensively in farming and stock raising, became a prominent man in Marion county during its formative years, and left an indelible mark on its history.

Marriage Notes for ISAAC MCCLELLAND and SARAH WELCH:
According to the Brink-McDonough history of Marion County, Isaac walked from Kaskaskia to the residence of Israel Jennings, near Walnut Hill.  He remained in that neighborhood from 1820 to 1824 when he was married to Sarah "Sallie" Welch.  Following the wedding, performed on Jan. 6, 1824, by Joseph Hensley, J.P., Isaac and his bride moved to Sandoval township. Here he improved a farm, but subsequently purchased a farm on the Walnut Hill prairie.

9.  RACHEL4 MCCLELLAND (ALEXANDER3, LT. COL. JOHN B.2, JOHN B.1) was born June 06, 1809 in Licking County, Ohio, and died 1887 in Marion County, Illinois.  She married WILLIAM B. JOHNSON December 24, 1826 in Licking Co., Ohio, son of ELISHA JOHNSON and SARAH UNKNOWN.  He was born June 24, 1804 in Worcester County, Maryland, and died January 29, 1886 in Sandoval, IL.

Notes for RACHEL MCCLELLAND:
Rachel had been born into the family Alexander and Catherine Coursen McClelland, who had left PA and pioneered to Licking County, OH in 1795. At least four of that family's members participated in the American Revolution. William, who had been reared a farmer, claimed the hand of Rachel and they wre wed in 1825. The farm they cleared was described in Ohio land records in this manner: "East of the forked Elm, south to the first bend in the crick west to the rock cliff by Brown's acres and then back north to the start."

10.  JACOB5 MCCLELLAND (MARY4, ALEXANDER3, LT. COL. JOHN B.2, JOHN B.1) was born April 03, 1812 in Licking County, Ohio, and died April 14, 1902 in Marion County, Illinois.  He married NANCY ANN ERRONBAUGH/ERLENGAUGH June 1837.  She was born January 16, 1819, and died July 21, 1896.

Notes for JACOB MCCLELLAND:
Jacob McClelland, of the citzens of Odin township, Marion Co., few are so well and so favorably known as is our subject, who is the proud prossessor of four hundred and ninety-four and one-half acres of valuable land, all of which is under ultivation with the exception of eighty acres of timber.  It is favorably located on section 28, and forms one of the most attractive homesteads in all the county.
Mr. McClelland of this sketch was born April 3, 1812, in Licking County, Ohio , and is the son of John and Mary (McClelland) McClelland, natives of Pennsylvania.  The father of our subject located in Licking County when about its only inhabitants were the Indians.  His wife was the daughter of Alexander and Catherine cClelland, the former of whom was an uncle of his father's.  Our subject was the only child
born of his union with Miss McClelland, as the father died when our subject was
quite young.  Mrs. McClelland married for her second husband Jacob Fry, and by
him became the mother of five children.
When our subject attained his twentieth year, he began working on the ohio Canal, and after spending two years thus employed worked for two years on the national Road.  At the time of his marriage he had saved about 600 Franks, and from that nueleus bult up a handsome fortune.  The lady whom he married in June, 1837, was Miss Nancy Errenbaugh, the daughter of Henry and Elizabeth (Kalloe) Errenbaugh.
In September, 1839, Mr. & Mrs. McClelland started overland with a team for his state, bringing with all their earthly effects in a wagon.  In October of that year they landed in Marion County, where our subject entered a quarter-section of timber and eighty acres of prairie land from the Government, which property is still their home.  Their first house consisted of a log cabin 12 x 11 feet in dimensions,
with puncheon floor, and a cloth tacked over a hole in the wall served as their only
window.  Mr. McClelland lost no time in clearing and improving his property, and as before stated, now has a fine track of nearly five hundred acres.
To Mr. and Mrs. McClelland has been born a family of nine children, namely: John and William, deceased; Lewis, Catherine, Washington; Levi and Andrew J., deceased; Matlda and James R.  Our subject cast his first vjote in 1832 for Andrew Jackson, and up to the outbreak of the late war was a strong Democrat.  Since that time, however, he has not identified himself with any particular party, but votes for the man when he considers will best fill the office.  He has always been greatly interested in school affairs, and for many years served as
a member of the Board.  He was elected Constable, but preferring to devote his
entire time to his private interest, refused to qualify.

Oliver McClelland Suicide
His dead body found in his room probably thirty minutes after the deed had been committed.
     From Friday's Sentinel, reported Thursday, Oct. 3, 1906, county records show the date of death as Sept. 28, 1906.
     O.J. McClelland, the well known North Oak street saloon man, ended his life this afternoon by shooting himself throught the breast with a revolver, and died sitting in a chair.
     Yesterday he arranged with Haussler & Son to fit up a room for his own use on the second floor over the sallon and the arrangements were that the stuff was to be delivered and placed in the room at 2 o'clock this afternoon. Mr. Seifert, one of Haussler & Son's employees, went to the room to get it ready for the furniture which was on the way. On entering the room he found McClelland sitting in a chair with his head thrown back and his breast all covered with blood.
     Under the chair lay a pearl handled revolver. From the blood clots it was presumed that he had been dead about half an hour when found. His barkeeper said that he had been away from the saloon about that long, but no one about the building heard the report of the revolver.
     Mr. McClelland has been quite despondent of late over some troubles and some of his intimate friends were not greatly surprised when they heard the news.
The room was at once locked up and he was left still reclining in the chari with nothing disturbed till the Coroner could take hold of the case.


12.  MARY ELIZABETH5 MCCLELLAND (ISAAC JOSIAH4, ALEXANDER3, LT. COL. JOHN B.2, JOHN B.1) was born February 22, 1832 in Marion County, Illinois, and died November 18, 1883 in Marion County, Illinois.  She married WILLIAM KELL BUNDY September 25, 1850, son of FREDERICK BUNDY and MARY WILSON.  He was born May 04, 1827 in Centralia Township, Marion County, Illinois, and died April 24, 1919 in Marion County, Illinois.

Notes for WILLIAM KELL BUNDY:
William Kell Bundy 1827-1919
     The life of the early settlers in any community has ever contained much to interest and entertain us. There is something romantic about the ruggedness of their lives and the uncertainties they had to face which holds a gascination for us today.  The family of the subject of this sketch were among the earliest inhabitants of the county in which they lived, and the hardworking lives they lived were much mroe eventful than the life of the average farmer of today.
     The life of William Kell Bundy, the subject of this sketch, has been an adventurous one.  In early life the received the limited  education afforded at the only available local institutions of learning--the subscription schools.  He remained at home doing necessary work on the farm until 1847, when at that martial period he enlisted in Company C, No., 1, United States Army for the Mexican War. His military career began by his being sent to Alton, Illinois, and later to Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, and later participated in the march across the desert to Santa Fe. He was on the march sixy days, which was a tedious one.  Later he took part in the advance upon old Albuquerque, the Mexican capital. Here he remained until 1848, where he did guard duty, and finally marched back. On his return he remained with his father superintending the old homestead until the latter's death, at which time he bought forty acres of it, on which he lived for fifteen years.  In 1863 he changed to his present abode in section No. 6, Racoon township. At different times the area of his land increased until he had at one time three hundred and fifty acres; the greater part of which he has divided among his children.  All the improvements on the place have been the fruits of his labor and supervision.  He has principally raised stock on the farm, cattle, horses, sheep and hogs, and also evinced an interest in the fancy and finer breeds.
     William Kell Bundy was born section No. 1, Centralia Township, Marion County, Illinois, on May 4, 1827 and was the son of Frederick and Mary (Wilson) Bundy.  He married first Mary Elizabeth, the daughter of Isaac and Sarah McClelland.  Isaac was an early settler in Marion County, near Walnut Hill. On the death of his first wife, Mr. Bundy married a second time on October 20, 1887, Anna Mildred Gaines, of Sumner County, near Nashville, Tennessee. She was the daughter of Henry and Marian (Bradley) Gaines.  They came to Marion County, Illinois in 1850, and settled in Stevenson township.  There Henry Gaines and his wife farmed during the remainder of their lives.  He died in 1850, and his wife in 1856.
     Though now in his eighty-second year, William Kell Bundy possesses a mind of unusual transparency.  He is still able to review in detail the memories and exploits of a long and varied career.
     In politics the subject of our sketch is a life-long follower of the Democracy. His first vote for a presidential candidate was recorded years ago when it went to James K. Polk, who figured in an eventful election. In religion he is a member of the Christian Church, in the interests of which he has ever been active.  He is now in the mellow period of a long life which has always been at the service of home and country.  He has fulfilled the duties of a long life; he is surrounded by an affectionable circle of sons an daughters; he has the friendship and good wishes of a host of friends. Is not this as much as any of us can hope for in the evening of life?

Notes for ISAAC MCCLELLAND BUNDY:
Isaac M. Bundy, son W.K. and Elizabeth Bundy, was born in Marion County, Illinois, August 31, 1862 and departed this life December 28, 1923, age 61 years 3 months and 28 days. He was married to Sarah E. Johnson, March 2, 1890 and to this union was born four children who survive him. Della Pearl Burge of Decatur, Illinois, Minnie Bell, Orville J. and Gladys Harriet Bundy all of Centralia. His wife preceding him to the life beyond some six months ago.  Beside his children he leaves three grandchildren, Francis Leo and Nelson Floyd Burge, and Bettie Marie Bundy, four sisters, Sarah Robinson of the state of Washington, Josephine West of Odin, Illinois, Lizzie Lamont of Arkansas and Rachel Jones of California and a host of other relatives and friends. He united with the Baptist Church of Zion Hill, and was baptized by Rev. Keel on April 28, 1889 and lived a member of this church up to the time of his death.
He was very patient in his last afflicition, and never complained of his lot, but said he was ready to go, and made all arrangements for his funeral. He was a loving father, was devoted to his family and home, and while laboring for his loved ones on earth, was laying up treasures in heaven.

    iii.    ORVILLE JOHNSON BUNDY, b. July 25, 1897, Raccoon Township, Marion County, Illinois; d. February 01, 1970, St. Marys Hospital, Centralia, Illinois; m. RUBY ANN SANDERS, April 15, 1923, Mt. Vernon, Illinois in Jefferson County; b. August 29, 1902, Marion County, Illinois; d. June 20, 1976, Centralia Township, Marion County, Illinois. (My Grandparents)
