latest projects

From time to time, I become involved in new projects. Some of these are connected in some way to my job at RYASAP. Others have to do with some some cause I support or any one of my numerous hobbies and obsessions. This page is not updated on a regular schedule but, rather, when new things "pop up."

YAR (Youth as Resources) is a community-based program that provides small grants to young people to design and carry out service projects that address social problems and contribute to significant community change. Our local program, YAR Promote the Peace, actively engages youth in identifying and acting on ways to improve the public safety, security and cooperative spirit of their communities. We are working with children from Kindergarten to eighth grade. Some of our volunteers are as young as four years old!

The RYASAP Youth Committee is one of the oldest youth-run groups in the state of Connecticut. I got involved with the Youth Committee when I was fifteen. I served as a member, Chairman and eventually as RYASAP's Youth Director. Although RYASAP has a new Youth Director, I'm still involved with the Youth Committee as an advisor and trainer.

Just this past year, I began to do some preliminary research on the genealogy of my family. So far, I've only done a little work on this project but I am actively pursuing lots of information. If anyone out there has information on the Muñiz family from Puerto Rico, please e-mail me at fernando_muniz@hotmail.com. A genealogy page will be up on this site as soon as I have more information.

Since everyone else is doing it, I figured I might as well start a web development company. What the heck, right? NandoNet maintains this site and several others. Except for my own personal propaganda, though, I only do web pages for non-profit agencies and grass-roots organizations.

In addition to all my other jobs and hobbies, I also do some private consulting on youth-work. I've been involved in youth-run substance abuse and violence prevention efforts for over ten years. I've done some consulting for several national non-profit agencies and have spoken at many conferences.

Shhh!! This is something that's in the works right now. More information to follow in the next several months...
