To My Mother

Now that you are gone from this world of strife,
And joined Our Lord in a happier life,
I want you to know, that I long for you so,
That I miss you, dear Mother wherever I go.

I miss your kind words and encouraging smile,
Your wisdom and comfort in hours of trial,
You were cheerful and gay, despite illness and pain,
And you prayed for each one of us, time and again.

You worked in the kitchen, or tended your flowers,
Which grew all around you, in wonderful bowers,
Or sat by the radio and tearfully heard,
The news of the war, or dramas absurd.

The night you departed and left us to mourn,
I looked at the heavens---a new star was born,
A prayer arose, in my heart, Mother dear,
You were finally at peace, with Our Lord so near.
