FIRE!!
Don't get burned

8/6/00

Every once in a while we see a unit in the shop that burned. It ain't a pretty sight. Most times it's a result of the user re-fueling the engine either while it's still running or before it's had a chance to cool off for a minute or two. A splash of fuel missing the fuel tank hits the muffler, which is red hot on the inside, and "poof".

Not certain what touched this one off but the results were the purchase of some expensive parts. Below are four shots of the ignition coil and one of the carb.

Click on any of the above thumbs for full size shot.
Big deal you say? Well maybe, but what if it happened to you? What if the fire spread to your home? What if the fuel tank or fill can exploded? Just maybe the guy who belongs to the above coil and carb got off cheap. Take a hint. Re-fuel your equipment when it isn't running and after it's had a couple of minutes to cool down the exhaust system. Play it safe.
