AALIYAH
At age 22, Aaliyah was hitting her stride as a singer and actress
before a plane crash in the Bahamas tragically took her life. Her
performance in the movie "Romeo Must Die," as well as her
contributions to the movie's soundtrack, were just two of the many
acclaimed achievements of her career. She will be deeply missed by
those of us who admired her overwhelming beauty and many talents.

Jurassic Park III continues one of the most successful film series ever, following Jurassic Park and The Lost World: Jurassic Park. Joe Johnston (October Sky, Jumanji), who first collaborated with Steven Spielberg on Raiders of the Lost Ark, directs. Spielberg is executive producer. Dazzling dinosaur effects come courtesy of the wizards at Industrial Light and Magic and Stan Winston. The original themes are from John Williams with a new score composed by Don Davis (The Matrix). The Randy Newman track "Big Hat, No Cattle" is from his 1999 album Bad Love

The world of the novel and later, images from the film, and the island of Cephallonia itself, all provided inspiration for the composition of this score. The music was written over a period of a year, beginning with “Pelagia’s Song”, the mandolin tune Antonio writes for Pelagia, which became a central theme in the film. Because music is so fundamental to this story, it was an intrinsic element of the shoot: from the mandolin scenes with Nicolas Cage, through the numerous dancing sequences, to La Scala and their ebullient opera society. John Williams has collaborated with Steven Spielberg on almost all of the director’s
grandiose epics since the two first met in 1974. His stunning scores often punctuate
Spielberg’s scenes so perfectly that image and sound are forever wedded in our
memories. From the ominous urgency of “Main Theme and First Victim” heard in Jaws, to
the triumphant score of the Indiana Jones trilogy, this amazing duo has collaborated on
some of the most memorable films of our time, including Close Encounters of the Third
Kind, E.T., Jurassic Park, and Schindler’s List.
Now the Spielberg/Williams juggernaut has reteamed on the summer’s most intriguing
blockbuster, the Warner Bros. Pictures/DreamWorks production A.I. The story, written by
Spielberg and originated by Stanley Kubrick, follows the journey of a robotic boy, David
(the first mechanical being programmed to love), on his search to find acceptance in a
world in which the line between human and robot is both terrifyingly vast and profoundly
thin. The soundtrack underscores David’s journey from his adopted home to the decadent
brilliance and wonderment of “Rouge City” and beyond. As he has done on his previous
collaborations with Spielberg, Williams adeptly captures each moment in his complex
orchestral net.

The Bride Of The Wind soundtrack serves as the ultimate introduction to the beautiful music of
not only Gustav Mahler, but Alma as well. The album (to be released June 5th on Deutsche
Grammophon) features three new performances by superstar soprano Renée Fleming and
piano virtuoso Jean-Yves Thibaudet, both of whom appear at the end of the film. The
soundtrack also includes the original Mahler-inspired score composed by Stephen Endelman,
as well as classic performances by Claudio Abbado, Pierre Boulez and the Vienna
Philharmonic from the prestigious Deutsche Grammophon catalog.
