This is one of my darker songs. A friend of mine was always having trouble relating to people. While he had no problems getting dates and such, he never seemed to be able to sustain a relationship. He began drinking a lot which didn't help the situation much. One night, we were on the front porch and he just came out and said how "lonely" he was. It doesn't sound like much, but for him to verbalize it, it was a ton.

Where do you want to go?

Loneliness (1991)

The other night when I lay sleeping
with my mistress, Loneliness, there in my bed
I had a dream, not worth repeating,
but it stayed inside my mind, inside my head
I dreamed I climbed the highest mountain
and I saw her standing there
Oh Loneliness, won’t you forsake me
And release me one more time so I can care.

There is a place out on the ocean
where souls are lost and fears are found
I’ve traveled there on mixed emotions
but my feet they yearn to be back on the ground
I’ve sailed away to fairer weather
but I’ve seen her waiting there
Oh Loneliness, won’t you forsake me
And release me one more time so I can care

I walk around in crowded places,
but I’m alone with memories on my mind
My life’s been filled with friendly faces
but I see right through them clearly tho’ I blind
I stay away from sounds of laughter
‘cause I find her waiting there
Oh Loneliness, won’t you forsake me
And release me one more time so I can care
