This was written while driving across the Nevada desert. I knew that when I got home to Pocatello that my wife and I were going to be splitting up. It wasn't one of those bad ones. It just wasn't working. I never loved anyone the way I loved her.

Where do you want to go?

Pocatello (1990)

Driving all night on my way from California
Now I’m sixteen miles away from the Gem State line
The coffee’s tasting mighty bad
But it’s the only damn thing the Dairy Queen had
To keep me awake and
keep me moving on down the line

bridge
I never thought I’d miss Pocatello
but I never thought I’d love you like I do
When the night-time pulls its curtain
Over Blackfoot and McCammon
I’ll close my eyes to sleep
And dream of you.

Sometimes it seems that we’ve got no time for dreaming
At other times, it seems that we’re all alone
And the grass just might seem greener
On the far side of the highway
But as for me, I just can’t wait to get home.
