What is Wicca?

Well , Wicca is celtic for witchcraft . Don't be afraid; witches are not those awful, wart-nosed, green-faced, ugly, vengeful creatures you saw in your childhood fairy tales that christians made up to scare people away from any religion but their own. Witchcraft, or wicca, is a religion, just like Christianity or Judaism. Witches believe in the God and Goddess and are much into nature - in fact, they sybolize it. Witches do cast spells. But most witches only do white magick, as they know that whatever they do comes back to them threefold. Most try to help people, not hinder them. Witchcraft is NOT the same as satanism. Witches can be male or female.

The pentagram, or pentacle if there's a circle around it, symbolizes many things. People tend to relate it with vampires, werewolves, and such. The pentagram , or five pointed star ,is perhaps the most often linked to witchcraft . It symbolises the four elements, Earth, Water, Air and Fire , plus the fifth 'element' ether, or spirit. It is usually shown with a single point uppermost, meaning the power of the mind working creatively with matter. With an apex pointing downwards it looks like the face of a goat, and has been associated with seeking of control for dubious purposes. But this really only means the spiritual spark hidden within matter, and the poor goat is, after all, a usefull and fertile animal!

Sometimes the pentagram is seen as representing the sacred feminine, as it looks like the spreadeagled body of a woman . It is a favourite decoration for witches , and many wear it on a ring or necklace. As a pentacle, or disk, it appears on Wiccan alters, signifying Earth.

Witchcraft has often been named 'satanic' and this is so untrue because in witchcraft religion , there is no 'satan' or 'devil' . There is , however, the belief of evil in the world .

I only want to say one more thing. I have only recently gotten into witchcraft and i love it. The difference between witchcraft and most other religions is that the wicca religion believes that everyone should decide which religion suites them best and that there are no great gods who are phsyically real. It is all in our mind . Heaven , hell , the afterlife and even reincarnation . So I don't want to tell you that you should become a witch . I am not saying you shouldn't . All I am saying (espicially to the christians) is that if you have been brought up in a religion that doesn't seem right to you , then you should go out and explore other religions to see witch suites you best. Most people have been brought up on christianity and think that all other religions are stupid . Well let me ask you, do you like all the dogma in it ? This is what made me change. Too many rules. Now all i think about is what is right and what is rong. This may sound stupid but marilyn manson had a lot to do with my change . I got the impression through his music that people should be themselves and not do what other people say all the time .

THANK YOU MARILYN MANSON. I LOVE YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The greatest thing about witchcraft is ,not the magick , but the freedom of life , which I think so many people are lacking. I want to ask you , Whose dream are you following , yours or some one elses?

Thank you , Niaks/Zephon/Virgo

What is Witchcraft?

"We are not evil. We don't harm or seduce people. We are not dangerous. We are

ordinary people like you. We have families, jobs, hopes, and dreams. We are not

a cult. This religion is not a joke. We are not what you think we are from looking

at T.V. We are real. We laugh, we cry. We are serious. We have a sense of humor.

You don't have to be afraid of us. We don't want to convert you. And please don't

try to convert us. Just give us the same right we give you -- to live in peace. We

are much more similar to you than you think."

If I were forced to classify myself, I'd say I was a Solitary (working alone) Eclectic (drawing from multiple traditions) Witch. I have never been a member of a coven nor have I apprenticed myself to an individual witch. Being eclectic, I cannot lay claim to family tradition (famtrad) or any single tradition, of which there are many. _________________________________________________________________________________
