The Gold Coast

Guinea and the Gold Coast was a popular site among pirates starting in the mid 1500s. Portugese, Dutch, French and British interests took hold with the founding of the East India Company which was a major corporation of trade and merchant vessels. As these ships would leave port laden with spices, goods and wealth, they were popular targets for Pirates and Privateers.
It was here upon the Gold Coast that Captain Bartholomew Roberts was killed on February 10, 1722.
