-- Black Flag Chat Room --

A chat room channel has been established by Tony Malesic to provide a real-time free-wheeling and informal meeting place in which those interested in all aspects of piracy can meet to discuss and exchange information. It costs nothing to join, provided of course, you already have internet access.

For those of you familiar with Internet Relay Chat (IRC), the channel is named #Blackflag, and is located on the Talk City Network. Set your chat software to access Talk City on the CHAT.TALKCITY.COM server, port 6667. Once the Talk City network has been accessed, type /join #Blackflag to enter the channel.

Another method is to go to the Talk City Chat Room web page: http://www.talkcity.com/chat.htmpl . Type in your nickname and password. If you don't already have a password, click on "How can I get a password" to register your nickname, so no one else can use it. It's free, and you don't get a whole lot of spam from Talk City - just an occasional email announcing the latest Talk City developments. If you do not wish to register, that is fine, just type in a nickname and skip the password field. Skip "Choose a room", and instead go to the next field "other room", and type: #blackflag . You can choose your chat method (Chat Lite or Chat Pro) then click "enter room". It may take a minute or two to fully connect.

While you may access the Blackflag Room at any time, you may find it empty other than yourself. A rendezvous time has been set up for 10pm Eastern Zone/7pm Pacific Zone (if you're in another zone, you'll have to do a little cipherin' and figure out the time). This is the best time to check in. Or if you just wish to test that you've accessed the room correctly, then email a friend and arrange your own rendezvous together in the Black Flag

-- Pirates Email List --

The Pirates Email List (also established and managed by Tony Malesic) is where list members can communicate via email with other members regarding the subject of piracy on the high seas and related topics. Many piratical/nautical historians and researchers participate in this list. If you are a serious student of piracy, or would like to learn more about piracy, this is the list for you. Though the postings to the Pirates Email List vary in number from day to day, there are often a dozen or more messages per day. Sometimes the discussion gets rather heated - and then the number of messages increase accordingly.

When first you sign up for this list, you might like to lurk for a while (just read the posted messages without responding) to get a lay of the land, so to speak. When you feel ready to add your own input or questions, you might introduce yourself to the others, with a little background, and why you were interested in joining the list.

  1. To subscribe to the list, simply send an email message to: majordomo@listbox.com
  2. Leave the subject line blank, and in the text of the message simply type: subscribe pirates
  3. No other information should appear in the text (Be sure to delete a signature block if you use one).
  4. After subscribing, any postings to the list should be addressed to: pirates@listbox.com

Later, if you wish to unsubscribe, repeat steps 1-3, only in step 2, type unsubscribe pirates instead.

-- Two Piratical Forums --

Through the virtual reality of cyberspace, you can connect with the Port Royal Privateers and other adventuresome rogues and wenches! Send your browser over to www.delphi.com , search on the word "pirate" where it says "Explore all Public Forums." Among the forum links you'll find "The Drunken Mermaid Tavern" and "Pieces of Eight." If you're not yet a registered Delphi member, follow the simple on-screen instructions (registration is free, and you won't get a lot of spam email, just the occasional annoucement from Delphi), and soon you'll be at the message boards (you will need to make sure "enable cookies" is activated - under "preferences" for your browser - just turn it off again when you are done, if you prefer). Read through the posted messages. If inspired, you can respond to previously posted messages, and/or post your own messages.

-- The Drunken Mermaid Tavern -- While reading 'No Quarter Given', you may have heard of the Drunken Mermaid Tavern, that fyne establishment in old Port Royal, Jamaica, run so well by Mother Rackett and her girls. Now you can post your notices on the message boards at "The Drunken Mermaid Tavern" forum! Learn of upcoming maritime events and pirate festivals, discuss pirate movies, ask any questions that might be pestering you. Meet up with other living history re-enactors, Renaissance festival participants & fairgoers, artifact collectors, and maritime history buffs interested in pirates, buccaneers, corsairs, privateers, etc.

-- Pieces of Eight -- "Pieces of Eight" is the official forum of the Port Royal Privateers! Hosted by Port Royal Polly, a talking parrot, the message boards at this forum are devoted exclusively to PRP activities. The public is heartily invited to stop by and exchange posts on nautical arts, costuming, or just plain piratin' with the likes of Barracuda d'Morte, Smilin' Jack Cagway, and Rumba Rue. Visitors will also find a link to the official web site of the Port Royal Privateers, where they can enjoy photos of PRP members doing what they do best.

-- No Quarter Given Online Newsletter --

Whether or not you are a subscriber to the No Quarter Given magazine, you are invited to sign up for the NO QUARTER GIVEN Online Newsletter. And 'tis FREE! We keep a weather eye out for late breaking news of piratical or nautical interest, such as events, shipwreck discoveries, movies in the works, TV shows airing, & museum exhibits. Then we send word out to you, as needed, perhaps a few times per month. Iffin ya wants ta join the Email crew, jus' send word to us at: nqgiven@discover.net . If you have any news of a piratical nature that you wish to share, again, send word to us.

-- Jolly Roger Discussion Group --

There is a piratical discussion group located at: alt.culture.jollyroger . Subscribe to this group through your email program. You can read messages posted there, reply to them, and post your own. Messages remain for a few days at a time. There seems to be no one monitoring posted messages, so non-piratical, give-me-your-money type messages so up frequently.

-- Pirate Postcards --

Once you've made a scurvy friend 'er two through one of the above connections, you might wish to send them a friendly (or not-so-friendly) greeting using these rollickin' Pirate Postcards. 'Tis easily done, and it's FREE! http://www.users.wineasy.se/chaos.productions/postcard/card.htm
