Before reading this file, I highly suggest you call for an example so you know what I am referring to. **Table of Contents** Part I - Questions and Answers. Part II - How to Hack the Mass Calling Manager Part III - The Mailbox Commands. Part IV - Glossary. Part V - Conclusion. **Part I - Questions and Answers** What is a mass calling manager? A mass calling manager is exactly what the name implies, a system that manages mass calls. An example would be when you call a business and you have to dial an extesion number to reach them. Who would have one? Usually large businesses or businesses with many different departments. When would be the best time to try to hack a mass calling manager? Probably between 7 p.m. and 8 a.m., between 2 hours after and 1 hour before normal business hours as employees may come in early or stay late to finish up work. Call the business to find out their hours and the nature of their business as this may be a factor in when employees are there or not. As for the above mentioned business employees are in at all different hours. **Part II - How to Hack the Mass Calling Manager** When the mass calling manager answers for the business, you will hear a recorded greeting. Usually you can press # and it will prompt you for your mailbox number, which is the same as the extension number. Usually it is three digits long. To get a mailbox number, from the main greeting, press a three digit number. The system will tell you if it is valid or not. Whe you enter a valid mailbox number, it will prompt you for a security code (password). Usually it is 4 digits long. Figuring out the password is the hard part. Knowing your victim helps a great deal. Common passwords are the last four digits of their phone number, the last four digits of their social security number, birthdate in mm/dd format, etc. If you know your victim you can "socially engineer" these out of them. **Part III - The Mailbox Commands.** Following are the commands of the mailbox system for the above mentioned business. This seems to be the most common type of mass call manager. ADDRESS Like a piece of mail needs an address, so does a voice message on the system. The address is the same as the extension number. AUTO-COPY This function allows the owner of the mailbox to copy all messages recieved in their mailbox to another on the system including their own. CUSTOMIZE To set the options in the mailbox to one's likings. There are many different options in the mailbox that can be customized. FUNCTION An option and/or command in the mailbox. FUTURE DELIVERY MESSAGE This option allows you to send your message at a later date. GREETING Much like an answering machine can have an outgoing message, the voice mailbox can have one as well. It will be heard when a personal extension is called and the owner doesn't answer and the owner had enabled this option. If not, the caller will hear a recorded system message telling the caller that the owner isn't answering. MAILBOX Like a postal mailbox, here private messages can be left for the owner of the mailbox. On a mass calling manager, there are individual mailboxes for each employee. MARK MESSAGE AS PRIVATE Selecting this option will notify the recipient of the message that the message is private. MESSAGE Voice messages recorded to the owner of the mailbox. These can be from within the system, or from outside the system. MESSAGE WAITING Message waiting informs the owner of the mailbox that a message is waiting as often as they like between times of the day they specify. (Example: Every 15 minutes between 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.) OFF-SITE NUMBER What I think this is is the phone number to be called when the mailbox recieves a message. The owner of the mailbox can enable and change this. PAGER NUMBER I think this is is the phone number to be called when the mailbox recieves a message. The owner of the mailbox can enable and change this. PERSONAL DISTRIBUTION LIST I think that this option allows the owner of the mailbox to copy all messages recieved in this mailbox to up to 10 (numbered 00-09) other mailboxes on the system. RETURN RECIEPT Like on some BBS systems you can request a return reciept, you can do the same with voice messages. Selecting this option will send the sender notification that the message was recieved. SECURITY CODE- A four-digit password required to get into a mailbox. SESSION That particular time in the mailbox. **Part V - Conclusion** This is pretty much all the information I could get from poking around the system.
