The "Duke Of Flatbush" was born Edwin Donald Snider on September 19, 1926. He was a three-sport star in high school before signing with the Dodgers at the age of 17. After a hitch in the Army and some seasoning in the Minor Leagues, he won the Dodgers' centerfield job in 1949 and became a favorite of Brooklyn fans. He was a .295 lifetime hitter with 407 homeruns. He hit 40 homeruns for 5 straight seasons. In World Series play, he led all National Leaguers with 11 career homeruns and 26 RBIs. Duke played with the Brooklyn Dodgers, Los Angeles Dodgers, San Francisco Giants, and the New York Mets before retiring in 1964. He remained in the limelight as a popular television analyst for the Montreal Expos. He was entered into baseball's Hall of Fame in 1980. He appeared on "The Rifleman" as a villain in an episode titled "The Retired Gun" and played himself on the popular sitcom, "Father Knows Best". He also did a number of television commercials. In recent years he made a cameo appearance in a feature film about baseball titled "Pastime". He currently lives in Fallbrook, California.
