Joseph Flood (sometimes Floyd in some records) was from the London, Middlesex County area of England. His marriage is recorded in Sutton, Courtenay, Berkshire showing him "of Chreechurch in London" and his wife, Jane West, of "Abington". (TGM, Vol 2, p 538). The passenger list of the Abigail in 1635 shows him as from Dorchester.

Born:  Abt 1590, age 45 in 1635 passenger list of the "Abigail" (Carlfred B. Broderick, NEHGR 111:104-111, 1957 - Thomas Coates of Lynn, Mass, pg 104).

Immigration:  Migrated 1635 on the "Abigail" with wife and three children (NEHGR 111:104, "The Coates Family of Essex Co, Mass", Carlfred B. Broderick, 1957). This web page, shows his name on that list,  (See 34-38)

Religion: Possibly Quaker. Was admonished for "withdrawing from the ordinance of infant baptism".

Spouse: Jane West. Marriage record in Sutton Courtenay, Berkshire, 10 Oct 1621 (See The Great Migration, Vol 2, Joseph Flood sketch, pp 537-539.

Occupation:  Per the passenger list, he was a baker.

Death & Estate. No death or estate records for Joseph Flood have been found, leading The Great Migration to conclude he left the country, to either England or another English colony. I find that conclusion a leap in logic. They simply could have died in Lynn without any record.

Children: Baptisms of 11 known children found (10 in England, 1 in America). Six death records found as children. The Great Migration Begins shows the other four as "no further record." Unbelievably, the usually reliable Great Migration does not give any source for the baptisms.

However, Carlfred Broderick found evidence to indicate that Elizabeth (baptism known and listed on the passenger list) was the same as Elizabeth, wife of Thomas Coates. (Carlfred B. Broderick, NEHGR 111:104-111, 1957 - Thomas Coates of Lynn, Mass, pg 104).
