"Where the mid-nineteenth century American musical landscape is re-created and the Great Northern Catskill Mountains ring out with melodic voice and strings that tell the story of the trials and triumphs of a turbulent time."
Guided by the spirit of Foster, Kittredge, Emmett, other leading music composers, publishers and the singing soldiers of the day, the Civil War Music Heritage Gathering aims to educate, explore, preserve, promote and share with the public the popular songs/tunes of the mid-nineteenth century.
Furthermore, we seek to create a fellowship and learning community where contemporary antebellum and Civil War string band musicians and workshop participants can exchange musical knowledge, thoughts and views about music history, playing styles and rub musical elbows with each other.
The only pre-requisites are having a genuine passion and respect for the period's songs and tunes and a capacity to enjoy and support the musicianship of others.

145th Gettysburg Anniversary Concert Press Release Press Release Date: Immediate Contact: John Quinn Email: jcquinn@webtv.net Tel: 518-734-5655 On the evenings of July 4 and July 5th, the Post Hall for the Grand Army of the Republic located at 53 East Middle Street, Gettysburg will serve as the venue for a special 145th Anniversary concert program. The program is dedicated to the memory and in recognition of the sacrifices of all the soldiers and townspeople who were impacted on by the battle in the summer of 1863. Performance times are 7:30 p.m. on Friday with two concert programs scheduled for Saturday at 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. Tours of the G.A.R. Hall's memorabilia collection will also be conducted by Historic Gettysburg Adams County, Inc. All members of the public and living history community are invited to attend this special anniversary program that is sure to be one of the highlights of heritage week. The concert program will feature an ensemble of some of the best dance, parlor and camp music string bands in the country. The performing groups include the Victorian Dance Ensemble, Susquehanna Travellers, Pianist Helen Beedle, Camptown Shakers, 77th NY Regimental Balladeers and Libby Prison Minstrels. All of these performers have been heralded for their recreations of the dances and music that were widely popular during the Civil War era. Quite a few of these musicians started out performing around the campfires at many reenactments. Today, they appear at museums, colleges, national historic sites and battlefields and other commemorative events. Helen Beedle, an extraordinary parlor pianist, will perform the music of the most prominent composers of the time. The Victorian Dance Ensemble, one of the most experienced mid-19th century dance groups in the nation, will demonstrate a series of dances that were enjoyed by almost everyone in America during the Civil War. We are grateful to Reifsnyder's, Inc. of Lancaster, PA for providing the Steinway & Sons Grand Concert piano that will be used during Ms. Beedle's program. Please join us on and experience the sound of the fiddle and the banjo and the songs that echoed throughout "a hundred circling camps." Tickets will be available at the door prior to each performance. Tickets are $10 for the general public and $9 for re-enactors, veterans, senior citizens.
