Orlafla's Political Beliefs

Until 1992, I had no political affiliation and registered to vote as an Independent.
As with most U.S. citizens, I was under the illusion that we had only two choices during each election.
Each election, I would just vote for the candidate that I hated the least.
The Democrats and Republicans just seemed to be too similar with only minor differences seperating them.
That all changed one night when I was surfing lazily through the cable channel stations.
It was on C-Span that I stopped, when I heard a man saying things exactly as I and my friends had been thinking them.
That man was Andre Marrou (The Libertarian Presidential Candidate) and he was in the process of getting signatures to be on the Presidential Ballot.

For months, I deligently watched all the news channels and political tv shows.
(Unfortunately, I did not yet have access to the internet).
I couldn't believe it!!
I see a man I liked one time, and then never could find another show about Andre Marrou nor the Libertarian Party.
Then I hear a man, Ross Perot who claims to represent the people..
...but as I listened to him, I realized that he was just another Democrat or Republican spouting the same meaningless promises.
I friends told about the show I had seen, but none believed that I had really seen another party that supported our ideas since there was nothing reported on the Libertarians on the news..
Could it have just been an alchohol induced dream?
I started going through the phone book and information until I finally found a number to the Libertarian Party...
After several calls to lines that had been disconnected I got in touch with Illinois Libertarian Party.
(That's where I lived then, I haven't always been lucky enough to live in this tropical paradise)
They were more than happy to send me pamphlets, literature and signature ballots to get the candidates onto the ballot.

For months, everyone I met was given a small test to determine their real political beliefs.
Amazing 99% passed the test as Libertarian at heart!
If I can find a copy of that test I will post it here, so that you can find your own beliefs.
But in the meantime, try visiting some of the Libertarian links to the left and see what the party has to say.

By this time, the debates were drawing near and it looked like we might actually have a chance to get the candidate on the ballot in all 50 states.
And hooray!, one of the debates was to be held in St. Louis at Washington University where I had previously attended school.
I would be able to go see Andre in person and view an actual debate.

But what was this?
Ross Perot (who wasn't yet on all the ballots and actually never was) might not be allowed to debate with the Democrats and Republicans.
And the news never did even mention the fact that the Libertarian Party and Andre Marrou were not invited either.
Ross finally did win his way into the debates, but not the Libertarian's who by this time were on all ballots.
I went to the debates, but stood outside with Andre and thousands of Libertarian supporters protesting the fact that we were not allowed inside.

Maybe Andre did not win that election, but we did proove a point by getting him on all the ballots.
Now the Libertarian Party is the third largest political party in the U.S., but I bet most of you still haven't heard of them until now.
I urge you to become aware that there is a choice, check out some of the links....
