How To Read Japanese With
Your NN/IE
(SORRY
WINDOWS USER ONLY)
Netscape Communicator (4.0 or Later)
You do not need to download or install software to view Japanese with your
NN4.0 or Later.
1: Go to Edit > Preferences >Navigator
2: Select Language Menu
3: Click on ADD button. Chosse Japanese from the list
4: Then go to Appearance > Fonts
5: Select Japanese from the Pull Down Menu
6: Select Font that named
[MS Gothic]
no other will work.
7: When you at Japanese Web Page, and NN not encoding it right,
go to View>Encoding>Japanese Auto Detect
That's it for NN.
Internet Explorer (3.0 or
Later)
You will need to download a add on program called Multi Language Support.
Go
To Microsoft's IE Page (You can access to the site only by IE)
Choose DOWNLOAD from menubar.
(When loading the page you specified, MS site acutually culculate what your
OS and IE type is)
For my setting, I will choose (My OS is Win95/ IE
4.01)
Add-on Windows Internet Features for Internet Explorer
4.0
(Then choose Multi Language Support, Japanese)
Then download what you need, install it, restart Computer, start IE
again with Japanese
web page, you should be able to see Japanese coming out.
Or, right click on the blowser's window while Japanese Web Page is open then
chose
Language>Japanese Auto Select.
To set Japanese as your default language, go to View>InternetOptions>Language
You can also Type Japanese with Microsoft
Global IME (only in IE and Outlook Express)
How to use it? It's easy, when you start IE, a blue square logo with En in
white letter appears
on the bottom right of your windows screen, click it, it'll give you an option
to choose
Japanese IME that you have downloaded.

I suggest you to download NJ
StarCommunicator with Japanese IME.
(This Program is originally a CJK(Chinese, Japanese, Korean) support Reader.
It can be used for both Netscape and IE but the letters will be pretty ugly to view
But it doesn't affect html coding)
This version of Japanese IME allows you to type in almost any applications.
If you choose FONT MS GOTHIC, you can use it with some graphic programs
like Photoshop, too.

Write mail to your friends in Japan???
So far I have done several ways to send Japanese mail to my friends in Japan,
I discovered the best way.
1.Start your IE. (You'd better use your Microsoft Global
IME here)
2.Create an Email Account with Excite
Japan Mail. (I'll tell you why Excite)
3.When your account is made, go to Settings (saids, Kankyousettei, in Japanese)
choose your encoding as Shin-JIS (it is chosen usually as default)
The Shin(New)-JIS is the encoding method developed for Email.
It has the fewest complain of MOJIBAKE.
