Charter schools are inherently different from traditional public schools in many ways. Those differences are intentional and reflect the unique character of each charter school. A plan that holds a charter school accountable for its results, therefore, must evaluate each charter school against its own specific performance objectives and goals, not against a set of rigid, uniform, “one-size-fits-all” standards commonly used to evaluate traditional public schools. At Vienna Communications Charter School, we have defined student and school performance goals and objectives. These goals and objectives reflect our commitment to life-long learning that integrates state-of-the-art technology with the development of communication and problem-solving skills.

There are several measures that VCCS is accountable for:

• Parental Satisfaction

  Parental and family support of Vienna’s students, teachers, and programs is essential for success. Vienna Communications Charter School will work closely with parents to ensure a high level of parental satisfaction. Parental satisfaction will be communicated in several ways, such as open forum school community meetings, direct involvement in the classroom, and periodic surveys and questionnaires. Parents will have the opportunity for input toward student assessment, and will be partners in the discipline policy.
  

  • Community Involvement

    Our students will be highly involved in the local community in several ways. Each grade will have a connection to the community that supports the specific technology theme for that grade. For example, our young actors and speakers may work with the local community theater, our young writers may work with a local magazine or newspaper, and our young producers will work with a local radio or television station.
    

    • Professional Development

      Vienna Communications Charter School’s professional development program will demonstrate our commitment to life-long learning and the importance of technological fluency in the twenty-first century. Our professional development program will keep our faculty abreast of current research and information about incorporating best practices and state-of-the-art technology in the subject areas. Specifically, over the next five years, our professional development plan will include:

      • Continued Implementing Best Practices in Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment.
      • Steps toward Fostering Resiliency in our Students and in Our Selves.
      • Thematic Instruction Across the Curriculum with Teamed Teachers
      • Assessment of Technological Skills, and Instruction as Needed.
