This story is supposed to be funny… Oh yeah, all those babysitting fans…this is a make-up babysitting 9 story, since I've been promising it since last year… Remember, feedback is flowers, beautiful flowers! …don't mind me. ******************************************************** Once Upon a Time. Pandora2 ******************************************************** It always started with "Once upon a time…" Once upon a time, there lived a woman with eyes and ears and mouth. She used her eyes to see, her mouth to speak, and her ears to listen. The woman also had a heart, which helped her to live. Once upon a time, there also lived a man. He too had eyes and ears and mouth, which he used to speak and see and listen. This man and this woman both lived happily in their apartments by D.C. Happy as they were, there was something missing from both of their lives. The man wished for someone to love and care for him. Someone to hold and cling to when times were good, or when life was bad. If he had someone, he'd be just fine. The man was lonely. He needed a woman. The woman longed for someone to love and care for her too. She slept each night alone in her bed, wondering if the other side would ever be occupied by another human being. The woman was lonely. She needed a man. ** It just so happened that the man was an FBI agent, flashing his badge and wielding his gun all day. He also just happened to be in charge of his own special division. It was called; The X Files. The man's name was Mulder. Now on to the woman. Well, as coincidence may have it, she too was an FBI agent of the badge flashing and gun wielding profession. In fact, she worked under the division owned my Fox Mulder. She was his partner and he was hers. Two halves of a hole. Waiting to fall in. The woman's name was Dana Scully. ** Dana had two brothers. One was Bill and the other was Charles. Bill had a wife called Tara and they had one son. Charles had a girl friend named Mary-sue…and you'll find out about that later… The Scully family was close-knit, and enjoyed meeting up at their mothers for significant dates and family celebrations. One of these special family celebrations was February the 15th. The day after Valentines. This was a day when the whole family got together and was happy. Sharing the good events of the day before…well…some of the good things had to be edited out of course, for censures' sake. Anyway, here they were gathered at their mothers' cosy home. Sitting around mom's warm hearth. "So Charles," said mom, "Tell us what happened yesterday…I hear you've got some very special news for us all…" Charles blushed faintly and pulled Mary-Sue's hand into his lap. "Well everyone…" he started, "Today Mary and I would like to announce that after many months of trying, we are pregnant." A round of applause and wolf whistles trailed after that statement. The happy couple hugged each other and accepted congratulations from their relatives. "You mean you're pregnant too?" Asked Bill with a silly grin on his large red face. Charlie rolled his eyes, "ha ha Bill, you know perfectly well who's pregnant." They laughed and gave each other a brotherly hug, filled with back slapping and shit-eating smiles. Dana came and hugged her little brother and his girlfriend. "Congratulations Charlie, Mary-Sue. It about time you made a contribution to our family. You better make an honest woman out of her soon y'know Charles. It's impolite." They laughed. ** Stories came and stories went. Finally it was Dana's turn in the spotlight. Lord, how she dreaded this moment every year. Everyone always had a cute and happy tale to tell everyone had a woman or a man. Even her widowed mother, she'd gone to visit their dad at the cemetery. But every time her turn came round, she had not a word to say. "Dana…?" Her mothers' voice brought her back to Earth. "Wha? Oh yeah…" she shifted uneasily. "Um, well…sorry to disappoint you all but I was out of town…working. I had a case to solve and then paperwork to complete. I didn't have time for a life yesterday." Well…it was half of the truth. She actually spent the day at work doing paperwork with her partner. Watching all the other crazy agents who'd come in that day, finding flowers on their tables and balloons tied to their chairs while she had no flowers, no balloons. No little notes of appreciation. Not even from Mulder. "Work again Dana?" it was Bill's voice, annoyed and sharp. "Why do you always follow where that jerk Mulder leads you? Can't you take a day to get a life? For god's sake Dane, yesterday was a weekend!" "Billy. Be nice to your sister! This is a family day." That was mom the saviour. Dana smiled, giving a silent thanks to her mother and stepped away from Bill. Now that story time was over, all gathered dispersed themselves around the house. Mary and Tara played a game with Matthew, while Bill and Charles gulped beers and watched a ball game. Mom spoke to Dana privately in the kitchen. "Dana, how are you and Fox doing?" she asked. Dana smiled, "We're fine, mom. He's met up with one of his old girlfriends today. They had a lot of catching up to do." The smile on mom's face fell noticeably. "So he's found a girl then has he? That's good news." "Oh no way, mom. She's married. She was only dropping by." "You're sure?" "Of course I'm sure. Mulder told me about it. Why should it matter to you anyway?" A sly wink came from mom's eye. "Because I want only the best for my little girl." "Mom!" "Come on, Dana honey. You need someone, admit it. Fox is a good man. You should let him know that." Dana lifted an eyebrow. "Yes mom. I have him already. He's always by my side. And he already knows hes a good man. I don't need to tell him that." Mom shrugged. "You know what I mean by someone, Dana. And I know that you already care for him deeply. He's in your heart. He cares for you too, you know." "I do mom. I do. Stop nagging me about it. We're not going to take the chance and that's final." "Yes honey, but I think you should. You both have the most special bond anyone has ever seen. And that's just in your friendship alone. You both know that bond can go deeper, all you have to do is make a move." Dana shook her hands in frustration. "NO, mom. Quit playing matchmaker already." She held up a silencing finger, "and don't ask me that question that you ask every year this year. Please." Mom laughed and hugged her dear daughter lovingly. "Playing matchmaker is my job Dana honey. Now, will you promise to at least talk to him about this?" Dana rolled her eyes and smiled in amusement. "You'll never give up, will you mom?" "No way. Now, promise?" "Fine, fine. I promise." Another hug. "Mommy's little girl." Dana then left the room and joined her sisters in law and listened to their chatter. Mom shook her greying head and smiled fondly. She asked Dana to talk to Fox every year. And every year, Dana said she would. Then, every February 15th, Dana came back empty-handed. But then again, maybe this year will be different; she told herself…you never know. Maybe this year, Dana would make the call… ** Later that night Dana Scully returned to her neat and lonely apartment. She kicked off her shoes and changed her clothes. She lay back on her bed and her eye caught the phone… She smiled a secret smile with her mouth used for talking. Maybe this year… She picked up the receiver and dialled the number, eyes shining. That voice came flowing to her ears and through her heart. "Mulder." "Hi, it's me. Can we talk?" "Sure, what about Scully? Is something wrong?" "No, nothing's the matter, Mulder. I'm fine. I just wanted to…talk…" "Okay…what about then Scully?" "Us." ** Dana Scully lay back on her bed and fiddled with a button on her blouse. Perhaps this year wouldn't be so lonesome after all… ** Fox Mulder sat back in his couch with the phone to his ear. He had a feeling things were going to turn out just fine… ** And that was how it always ended. Everything was good and beautiful and everybody felt just fine. The End. ******************************************************** The end. What?! You're still here? Well go on then! Send feedback you silly fool! Get on with it! J Kudos. Pandora2
