The Hershman Karate School is a traditional martial art school.
Lessons are conducted in a self motivated learning enviroment as they are taught in the Orient. Karate is a way of life. Self
defense is an attitude that is incorporated in this way of karate. Martial arts do not repressent a religion other than that
believed by its teacher. We are Christian, believing in Jesus Christ and following Him as our Lord and Savior. Christ does
not want to force himself on anyone and we will not either. Karate is used to improve the person's mind and body. The soul
is improved by the discipline of the previous two. God is the Creater of the world and is the origin of every thought. The
Bible says we are soilders. We should use every aspect He has blessed us with to His glory.

Okinawa Mission Trips
To better describe the purpose of our karate program
we have renamed it to the Dogwood Ministries and Christian karate. Dogwood was the name that God showed me. The flowers
of the Dogwood are said to look like the cross and its wood is said to be the wood used to make the cross. It is also the
state tree of Virginia. Hanamizuki is the Japanese word for the dogwood tree.

Information on the senior instructor
We teach the Ryukyu Hon Kenpo Kobujutsu system of Okinawa Kenpo as taught
by Grand Master Seikichi Odo. This is karate system with a history back to China. Kata (forms) are the medium of instruction.
The old weapons systems of the Okinawa martial arts are taught. Okinawa karate was developed for civil defense not combat
and originates from a peace loving people. We carry this tradition forward.
It is our hope and prayer that our students are healthy
in mind, body and soul.
Weather cancellation policy: The
primary concern is your safety. If you feel that you can not drive safely due to weather don't drive! If Sensei Hershman
or representative believes the weather is a hazard or dangerous, then the dojo will be closed. Check this web page or call
before coming out in bad weather. (bad weather is: ice, heavy snow, flooding, tornado, very high winds,
etc)
