"Right from the start we were well and truly beating our main competition for the Championship."

This rally was held on 25/9/99 starting at the historic Ballarat Light Car Club grounds situated in the Ballarat Airfield. It started with a Super Spectator stage in the airfield. Several thousand spectators along with the local media, WIN and PRIME TV attended. The event then made its way through Daylesford and other local areas.

Right from the start we were well and truly beating our main competition for the Championship. Not having competed on these roads before we had no knowledge of the roads and had to rely entirely on the route charts. We were going as hard as the Escort could, then on stage 6 third gear destroyed itself. This wasn't a great problem, there were still three gears left. We decided to continue as long as the gearbox held together. Then came stage 7 that saw us totally loose our brakes. That was it, our first and hopefully only retirement for the year. This throws the championship wide open. The pressure is now on us to win our grade of the last two events for the series to take out the championship. They are the North Eastern at Bright on 23/10/99 and the Djerriwarrh at Melton on 13/11/99. We have a few hours to spend in the workshop before the North Eastern so I better get into it!
