I'm happy to announce that Sutton has been in remission for 6 months as of
Dec. 16, 1999. What worked for us was cyclosporin. Sutton had very bad PF's
, they went around the sphinctor and into the rectum. Pred. and then 2 cryo.
surgeries didn't work for us. I had his anal sacs taken out with the first
surgery. I watched the surgeries and the doctor put the instrument right
around that spinctor. My Sutton was very bad. He couldn't have a bowl
movement and he would go a thimbleful at a time. It took hours. Last January
I was thinking my only option was to put him down.
After reading Carolyn's article I talked with her and she sent me information
about cyclosporin.( The Guelph study) We started with 200 mg. (100mg trice a
day) after 4 weeks we weren't seeing results and the blood troth levels were
not up there (400 - 600) at 5 weeks we raised the cyclo. to 300 mg.(150mg.
twice a day) The PF's started to show improvement and the troth level went
up. We stayed on the cyclo (300mg.) for 16 more weeks. That was for 4 weeks
after the PF's had cleared up. My vet followed the Guelph study.
We did blood troth levels 10 days
after we started the cyclosporin. They are supposed to be taken approx.
12
hr. after the pill is taken. We made a mistake on Suttons first test
and
took it 3 hr. after medication. That's why it was so high and not doing
the
job. These are the tests and results of his tests. Cyclosporin levels
should be between 400 - 600.

They were sent to a local hospital (people hospital). My cost was $110
a
test.
This year I did no shots on Sutton. I did titers and they were all up there.
I did no heart worm (will do blood word this spring) or no flea sprays.( only
Avon skin so soft etc.) We live in New York and so far so good. Haven't
decided what I'll do come this spring.
I feed Natural Life Lamaderm (Lam & Rice)
His Vitamins are : 500 C, 200 E, 50 B-complex twice a day on all vitamins.
I shave his but about once a month and after every bowl movement I clean him
off with a solution of betadine and water mixed to the color of weak tea.
That's in a spray bottle. I spray him and wipe him off with a soft kleenex.
On the personal side, last summer & fall with all the stress of this disease
(It was a lot on me - I am an anxious type person) My anxiety flared up. It
seemed when Sutton went into remission and was better I fell apart. I believe
it was an after effect of fighting the PF's. I then had to take care of
myself.
Today we are both feeling so much better and we've gone back to training.
Having lots of fun (NO STRESS) doing fun stuff together and yesterday we went
back into the obedience ring and got our first leg on our CD with a 193
score. He worked so good (he's a prancer and quite showy when he's up) and it
felt so good. Needless to say when we finished our routine tears were
flowing from myself and my friends. All I could say is we're back "ONE DAY AT
A TIME".
