Given Name
Eilleen Regina Edwards; chosen name, Shania, is the Ojibway Indian word for "I'm on my way". Twain is the surname of her adoptive father, Jerry Twain.

Name Change
After signing her record deal in 1992, Mercury Records executives mentioned that they didn't think that her name, Eilleen Twain, was a viable name for a country singer; they suggested that she change her last name, but Shania refused, opting to change her first name instead.

How They Met
Mutt called Shania after seeing her video "What Made You Say That" and listening to her first album; they met face-to-face for the first time at 1993's Fan Fair in Nashville, TN , which Mutt attended with rock star Bryan Adams; the couple fell in love in Spain; became engaged Paris and married Dec. 28, 1993, at the Deerhurst Inn in Muksoka, Ontario, Canada; "I respect him and love so much. That's what makes my whole life happy."

"Home Ain't Where His Heart Is (Anymore)", during one of their early phone conversations.

Residences
a home on Florida's west coast; an estate in Lake Placid, NY (for sale) and a newly acquired castle in Switzerland on Lake Geneva.

Early Performances
Age 3, after recognizing her young daughters talent, Sharon Twain had Shania sing along with the jukebox for patrons at local restaurants; by age 8, Shania was singing on television and radio shows, telethons, family gatherings, homes for the elderly, community centers and nightclubs; "I think starting young was a good thing, because if I hadn't started young, I don't know if I would have gotten up the courage to go up onstage. By the time I was a teenager, it was second nature."

Pets
A German Shepherd, Tim; and a horse, Dancer...they often travel with Shania when she is on the road.

Pasta. Shania is a vegetarian.
