Kaleth (an angel of Proteus) fought during the Third Great War to drive off the many evils that arose during that dark time. After that he remained and continued to fight against evil. Most recently he travelled with a small adventuring party-- Vegum, a Dwarven healer; Mia, a female human knight; Warn, a female wizard; Taladas, a summoner; and Fregth, a cat with bat wings (familiar). Over the years a close relationship developed between Mia and Kaleth, and three years later they married. However, Taladas was severely jealous of Kaleth, and during their next adventure he made a pact with a vampire and lead Kaleth into a lethal trap. Mia andthe others escaped with Talandas' help, but evil had already begun to consume his soul, and soon his heart and his summonings wilted into abominations of raw evil. The others, seeing what Taladas was becoming, drove him deep within a series of vast underground caverns. With her pregnancy slowing her down, Mia left to go to the capitol city for protection. Fregth chose to stay behind to guard the caverns, and the others split time between visiting Mia andhelping to raise her child, keeping Fregth company at the caverns, and continuing adventuring.

Gareth trained as a lancer under th guidance of his mother and the Palace Guard (which Mia had joined to help pay the bills). He eventually found his wings to be more of a help than a hinderance (teasing as a child can suck). He couldn't hear enough stories about his father, and longed to follow in his footsteps. Upon hearing the rumors of a great evil surfacing, and wanting to find adventure, he packed up his father's journal (which he reads often) and amulet, and has travelled with his friend Karien to Natar to Join the Edge Guard.
