Geography

This part of the page will contain a section for each of the areas listed on the map, and (if applicable) will list the country's ruler, major deity, and a few interesting notes about the area.

The Dead Lands-- This is a desolate wasteland filled with twisted and grey plantlife, and little or no plant life. The primary inhabitants of this region are the undead. This area was created by the magical energies unleashed during the Great War, and has served as a sort of magnet for undead activity and necromantic cults. it is said to be rulled by a powerful Lich, who creates new soldiers for his army by sending his monsters and cultists out to capture victims for his necromantic rituals.

The Barbarian Territories-- This is the land generally occupied by a large number of nomadic and stationary barbarian nations. There is no single ruler, and the different nations are in constant war with each other and the monsters and creatures that live in this area as well. It is a chaotic territory filled with monsters and wilderness, and is bordered to the north by a giant mountain range that seperates the continent from the great frozen continent of Dragos to the north. No one really wants to go there, and when the Empire tried to claim this territory centuries ago, it almost led to the complete destruction of the Empire.

Tra'gor (the Ogre lands)-- This area is inhabited by a civilized fation of Ogres, who have built a few minor cities and towns, and unified under a single ruling council of chieftans. This sets them apart from their wild cousins to the north, who maintain the old ways of Ogre life. These civilized Ogres are by no means weak or passive, they have just learned to control their aggression to some degree and are beginning to gain more of an education in civilized manners.

Kingdom of Lynos-- This Kingdom is loosely affiliated with the Empire, and specialized in mining and forestry, providing the majority of the raw materials used by most of the human kingdoms. They are drivien more by profit than by any noble causes, and most of the wealth is controlled by the nobles, with most of the general population living a substandard life akin to that of Medieva serfs. Their basic needs are provided for, but they have no real possesions of their own.

Ta'resa (the Elf lands)-- Almost the entire area is covered by a gigantic, ancient forest, and the elven cities are built around and in some cases even within the trees. The Elves are rules by a Council of Elders, who remain in the capitol deep within the forest. No non-elves have been more than a short distance within the forest, as the Elves tend to be very isolationist, except for those who live on the outskirts and have had extensive contact with others.

Kingdom of Andross-- A shining beacon in to the other human kingdoms, Andross is the nearest thing to an ideal society that exists. The standard of living is high, there is little crime, the laws are fair, and the citizens are happy and protected. Most of this can be traced to the Royal faimily, who have been wise and kind rulers for generations, and truly care about their people. Of course, this wealth and popularity, as well as location, have made Andross more than a few enemies.

The Empire-- The empire once ruled almost all of Dael, and large portions of Circ and Sorol, but an increasingly corrupt bureaucracy, inept leadership, and a war with the Barbarans reduced the Empire to a few small cities and outposts, and a lot of ruins. In the last decade however, the Empire has seen a sort of rebirth under the guidance of the new Empress, and has gained back much of its former glory, and even some of it's territiory. The Empire, despite its decline, is still one of the most advanced of the human Kindoms, and is almost legendary for its opulence and grandeur. But many are now beginning to fear that the new Empress may be planning to restore the Empire to its former heights, though no evidence has yet arisen for this.

Gnorran (the Gnome lands)-- This mountainous area is home to the Gnomes, who have hoenycombed the area with thier cities, mines and laboratories. The Gnomes are inventors, and clouds of smoke and steam, and the occasional flying machine cna be seen above the mountains as the Gnomes' strange machinery does whatever it is gnomish devices do.

Haromar (the Halfling lands)-- This is the home of the halflings, a land of gently rooling hills and literally thousands of lakes, The Halflings make thier homes in and around these lakes-burrowed into the hills, or floating on the lakes-and have no real cities in the area. The Halflings are some of the best sailors on the continent, and build the best ships and boats.

Kingdom of Garond-- This nation is primarily involved with sailing and shipbuilding, and specializes in fishing and trading. The ports here are Dael's link to the resources and trade of the southern continent, and it provides the majority of the seafood to the continent.

The Shattered Islands (the Pirate Kingdoms)-- Consisting of thousands of islands, this area serves as a haven to pirates and other outlaws, and is in a good position to attack the trade routes between Dael and Sorol on bothe the Garond and the Empire sides. And the natural dangers and variety of hiding places within the islands make pursuit almost impossible to those who don't know their way through. Several Empire missions to try to wipe out the pirate fleets have met with failure, and even destruction of several Empire ships. It is said that the pirates are a unified nation all their own, ruled by a king from a gigantic pirate city somewhere in the islands.

Kingdom of Endali-- A former Empire outpost (and they still don't like the Empire), the kingdom serves as the gateway to the rest of the southern continent, which is almost completely wild and unexplored. There are several rich mines in the mountains, and exotic woods, spices and other goods that traders from the north will pay handsomely for. It is also rumored that the great jungle in the continent's interior hides an ancienct civilization filled with untold riches and power.

Kingdom of Tanar-- the Amazon lands, mostly small villages and towns, and ruled by a queen and council of elders. The Amazons are a female dominated society (there are males, but they are subservient), who have become famous as the best breeders of animals and humanoids on the continents.

Island of Mystari (the Arcane lands)-- This island is the home of the race known as the Arcane, and has become the ultimate center of learning for magic. The only city is Arcos, a gigantic, flying city that drifts over the island, slowly making its way around to various areas of the island said to be focal points for magical energy. There are also several mage towers, circles of power, and other mystic sites scattered across the island.

The Free city of Natar-- Built in the center of the lake which serves as a nexus for trade routes throughout the continent, Natar is perhaps themost impressive city on the globe (it should be, it's the most expensive). The main part of the city completely covers and island in the lake, and as the city and its need expanded, the city spread to several smaller surrounding islands, manmade islands and structures, and eventually to the nearby shoreline. The buildings are constructed of a white granite mined in Lynos, and they, the island, and the other structures were built and created by the greatest Dwarven stoneshapers and artisans. It is perhaps the most beautiful and impressive city ever. The city is ruled by a council compprised of the merchant houses of the city, and maintains strict sutonomy from all other kingdoms and governments.
