Please    Make    the    Bard    Understandable!

Shakespeare's works are a frightening undertaking for just about everyone. Few can look at his works without some sense of apprehension. If his works are scary to us, can you imagine what our students must be feeling? How can we take away their fear and engage them in the most timeless texts ever written?

In today's schools, students are not provided with a real connection to Shakespeare. We, as educators, settle for a dry reading of the text, completely ignoring the dramatic purpose for which his plays were intended. We struggle to make our students translate and comprehend, when we really should be looking for ways to help them connect his works with their world.

This site attempts to provide many useful links for the teacher, student and Shakespeare enthusiast. Although I have not included every Shakespeare site available, I have chosen some of the best. Most of the listed sites have multiple links, so you can enjoy hours of Shakespearean surfing.

Let's make Shakespeare interesting for our blossoming bards! Remember, "the play's the thing..."
