There was a broad smile, a firm handshake and a kind word for everyone he met. For a "newbie" there was always the greeting "my name is Bernie, what's yours?" To him there was no such thing as anyone being judged for their race, religion, occupation, sex or bank account. All people were the same! Different backgrounds, beliefs, education and culture made up the world and he totally respected each and every difference. In short, he believed in equal justice for everyone.
Whenever anyone needed help of any kind they knew he would be there for them....a trip to or from a hospital or doctor, assistance with an ailing spouse, a haircut, help with exercise and ever so much more as you listen to the people who relate his many kindnesses.
