. . . . .
Blinded by the lyrics
Plus: Today's helpful (?) hint
From Poet X of PDX: "Riddle: how can you tell you're in Overtime Hell? When you work 45 hours in a week. Nothing, you say? I had to play hooky midweek to get it that low. Most co-workers put in a 56-hour week (after last week's 53).
"Didn't just do nothin' on my hooky day; went to see the second-ever performance of a band that's a hybrid of Toad the Wet Sprocket and Nickel Creek called Mutual Admiration Society. They performed a song I'm familiar with from Nickel Creek's second CD, but I didn't know the title of it. When I got home, I got out the CD and the booklet has the lyrics, so I went looking for the song that contained what I thought were the lyrics: 'Your first dog blinded you, left you cursing the light (day?).'
"It took extra-long to find the song because the lyrics, I discovered, are: 'Your first dawn blinded you.' Oh, well.
"Another sign I'm overworked: I had five BB columns to read just now to stay caught up. Today's lead story reminded me of some advice I realized after my first vacation with my first Significant Other: Don't live with someone until you've taken a trip together.
"Have I heeded my own advice?
"Never.
"And I still think it's great advice."
