Writes Poet X of PDX:

"Monday, I began listening at work to my CD collection in alphabetical order, starting with the A's and B's; Tuesday night was devoted entirely to Patsy 'C'line and Bobby 'D'arin (alternately from 4:30 p.m. till 3 a.m.; 13 discs, including one song, 'Always,' sung by each with equal perfection). Tonight was E's and F's.
"Tomorrow's music-to-type-by is particularly diverse. When I first get to work, I'll listen to Art Garfunkel and some Judy Garland before a break. Then Marvin Gaye and/or Macy Gray. Around lunch I'll hear a few by Patty Griffin, a real favorite. Then 'Hair,' The Hollies, Hoobastank, Hootie & the Blowfish, and Bruce Hornsby, with a break thrown in there somewhere. Still in the land of eternal overtime, I may have time to go back and hear some Gin Blossoms or Harvey Danger (a group, not a person, thus filed under H).

"Friday I'll listen to J-K-L (there is no 'I' in my collection) [Bulletin Board says: Well, sure, there is! It's after the "t" and before the second "o"! (Sorry. We've heard, "There is no 'I' in team" far too many times for one lifetime!], Monday the M's (appropriately), Tuesday N-O-P, Wednesday Q (Queen, their 15 studio albums), Thursday R-S, and I'll finish the alphabet Friday. With what will I distract myself after that?

"I could start by going back for the C's and D's that I skipped while listening all night to Patsy and Bobby! Johnny Cash, Ray Charles, Cher, Dido ….

"Speaking of Dido: I've blown the punch line now, but for the last week we've had someone here painting the house. Last weekend we were in the living room chatting while I put CDs in the player.

" 'Oh, ditto,' said the painter.

"I paused the longest pause and wondered if I'd just said something worth vocal agreement. No, wasn't that. I honestly began to look around for a piece of paper with purple-blue ink on it. No, wasn't that. At last it clicked.

" 'Oh, Dido,' I said.

" 'Yeah, we have her,' he continued, probably meaning his teenage son and daughter more than himself and his wife.

"But just the mention of it makes me able to smell it. Oh, ditto!"
