. . . . .

Pardon me, Roy. Is that the cat that chewed your new shoes?

Poet X of PDX: "There once was a farm girl named Lucille whose task it was to weave the thread and twine and yarn for the family. She would sit at her spinning wheel and spin and sing songs. Sometimes she would take the scraps of yarn and twine and shape a doll. She'd wish it would spring to life and talk and sing along with her.

"One night in a dream, her fairy godmother appeared to her.

" 'Would you like your puppet to come to life?' she asked. 'You need only say the magic words and twist the ends of your yarn in your mouth, then use that string to make your doll.'

"The next day Lucille did as she'd been instructed in her dream. When she twisted the last piece of yarn and made it into a belt to tie around her doll, it sprang to life and began singing, 'You licked a fine twine to weave me, Lucille.' "
