Responding to someone who, a few weeks back, mentioned that their pet peeve was hearing people say "eck-cet-uh-ruh':
Midnight Angel of Vadnais Heights: "I'd like to add my two cents' worth about words that 'make your teeth itch.' I have a word that is so mispronounced that not only does it do that, but it makes my toenails curl and my skin crawl! "The word is a simple one: Quarter … just plain, good old quarter! I can't begin to tell you the number of times I have heard quarter pronounced CORE-der. Aarrgg … the pain of it all! It's pronounced KWOR-ter! Just plain KWOR-ter!"
