about the author: John Gilgun was, even still is I think, an often included contributor. This short poem reminds me of a long story. The poem was first submitted in a longer form, about seven or nine lines. I was especially impressed with the first two lines and thought the poem should end there, brought it up when we were discussing the poem and whether to publish it. I decided to do something we very rarely did as an editorial group, make specific suggestions to an author what might be done to their work. And it was so well taken. John resubmitted the poem and wrote a note saying something to the effect that he knew that was the poem he'd been trying to write, not the longer one. -gcb
