Rating: 5/5

Released in conjunction with their 1998 tour of Australia, New Zealand and Japan, The Hellacopters’ Disappointment Blues EP is far better than most tour EPs. Comprised of one new song, 3 other rare originals as well as 3 covers, Disappointment Blues documents the Hellacopters transition from a more hardcore punk rock band to one of the best and most exciting rock and roll bands anywhere in the world. Their three covers of tracks by Motorhead, Sonic’s Rendezvous Band and Radio Birdman probably best demonstrate what’s going on but it is their own songs that really impress. The title track, which is a brilliant rewrite of the seminal Sonic’s Rendezvous Band song City Slang, is probably the best song on this CD while Long Gone Losers is just as good. You know a band is pretty special if they can release songs this good on a tour EP.
