Rating: 2.5/5

By all reports the Scruffs are a pretty unorganised and disorderly band and this comes across in their music. Initially I wasn’t all that impressed with their debut EP Take A Bath but after a couple of spins, the bands rough style of power pop soon enveiled a likeable charm. Lead singer Ryan Ellsmore has a nasal twang to his voice that is perfectly suited to this style of music and on their cover of the DB’s classic, Black & White, he sounds remarkably like Chris Stamey. Another highlight is the surprisingly acoustic song Slumber. Although the basic production and live feel doesn’t really aid the band’s sound, it does add a manic quality. As it stands, Take A Bath is good effort but I can’t see myself listening to it on a regular basis.
