~~~REMEMBER WHEN~~~
This web site is dedicated to the 50's and 60's. Hopefully it will bring back memories for the "boomers" or show the younger generation what life was like back then.
The 50's and 60's were decades of many changes in fashion, music, attitudes and history. Click on the highlighted words to view.
In the 50's the biggest thing to happen was the popularity of the King of Rock and Roll,ELVISThere was also the loved but short-lived career of the Rebel, James Dean and the ever popular sex symbol, Marilyn Monroe.
The 50's were a time of dances called "Sock Hops," held in high school gyms, "poodle skirts," "Bobby Socks" and "Saddle Shoes." The boys that were considered "bad", all tried to get the Elvis look of slicked back hair and turned up collars, and drove around in souped up cars. The favorite hangouts for the teens were luncheonettes with juke boxes.
Remember 1953? Eisenhowerwas president. New York would still have the Giants and the Brooklyn Dodgers. In the 50's, Mickey Mantle was the star and Rocky Marciano the boxer. The movies seemed to cater to the youth with actors like Marlon Brando in On The Waterfront symbolizing youth rebellion. On T.V., the long running I Love Lucy began.
The 60's was a time of "flower children", free love, war protestors and hippies.
John F. Kennedy was president, Peter, Paul and Mary were popular folk singers and one of the favorite singers at Woodstock was Joan Baez. Below are some songs by the Beatles, Bobby Vinton, Bill Haley and the Comets, The Beach Boys and Bob Dylan.
