The DeM Newsletter, No.4 August 18, 1999 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Feature Articles This Issue: -NONE. Columns: -DeM Game Events -New Player Approvals and Persona Updates -Deus Ex Machina Page Updates -Deus Ex Machina Players: Web Page Updates -Arcana's working on... ----------------------------------------------------------------- There are no feature articles this issue because, quite frankly, I'm quite tired tonight and it's bothersome trying to think of something to add to a newsletter every two weeks! If you have anything you'd like to write, I encourage you to send it in to me. The newsletter is sent to the list, archived on the web page, and can be seen by the public. ----------------------------------------------------------------- DeM GAME EVENTS ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I'm approximately three or four posts behind, which isn't a substantial amount. Some of the recent events I've read about are the attack on Shevat, which features Mariko, Emil, and Queen Cyrene, a quest for the Phoenix Star by Lyta, Jared, Michael, and Sakura, and Elanore's run-ins with Darius and Kyouran. Other events include the capture of Bledavik, a lost man in the forest, twin Mordons, and two brothers trying to locate the truth. The major events, in summary, are: July 16: Diablos attack on Bledavik. July 18: Solaris attack on Shevat. July 20: Kislev capture of Bledavik. Quite a morbid week of war. ~~ NEW PLAYER APPROVALS ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ There are a few newly approved character sheets; Hobbes has done a great job of keeping up to date with the character submissions! We have two characters. Apologies if you have been accepted and I have forgotten your name; please E-mail me and remind me, and you'll be inserted into the next issue! Sakura, played by Janis Jarvis, played by Pete. Welcome! DEUS EX MACHINA PAGE UPDATES ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The largest update, which occurred about a half-week ago, was done to the "Guidelines" page, and is mainly attracted toward new players and new applicants. Due to DeM's growing population, I felt that I had to be clearer on the guidelines. In addition to a clarification of the fields on the Persona Sheet, I have posted a short guide to get started. In addition to these, I have posted the August quick summary (first half), accessible on my "Archives" page. You can also find pieces of artwork by Kamitra, Sharky, and Matt on my Art section; Matt has mentioned his artwork on the list, and here it is. The two works I have received in the past two weeks were two works in progress. One is called "Xenogears: Return to Genesis" (after Xenogears) and the other is "Xenogears: Remembrance" (during Xenogears). PLAYER PAGE UPDATES ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Deona has reported a page update to her Shitan Shrine! The page is at: http://www.geocities.com/TimesSquare/Zone/7620. Our very own Amber Michelle has written yet anoter Xenogears fiction. Of course, being Mister Inattentive, I don't even know what the name is, except that it starts with an "Sh". (Darn it, I *KNOW* Shadows Falling fits into that description!). Read it on her page at http://www.zenogias.com/~Guardian/! ----------------------------------------------------------------- Arcana's working on... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ It's the quest for a web server. YES, my quest is to start a web server, and right now, the quest is not going very well. My P-100 machine has a bit too little RAM to effective run X- Windows, and I'm not familiar enough with BASH to navigate Linux without it (yet). I have Apache software, but no know-how on how to use it. Anyone who can help me, you are welcome to E-mail! Similarly, I'm hoping to get up a MUCK. Specifically, host the Xenogears MUCK, which has an uncanny knack of going down and crashing. I have it worked out. I'm getting a Cable Modem, and since it'll be a static ISP, anyone can connect onto it as long as I leave the software and the computer running. (That same ISP will be used for my web server as well; I hope to register my own domain name... how does "arcana.dem.org" sound?). On my web server, I hope to move my DeM page and my FF7 page. I also hope to upload a small amount of Final Fantasy VIII stuff to the FTP that I plan to host. Anyone want web space? ^_^ (Don't ask me until I actually get something working). On the same note, I'm trying to network my computers. Maybe it's just the fact that my two machines are Windows 98 and Linux that is crushing me, or maybe it's the fact that my floppy drive doesn't seem to work on my Linux machine, or maybe it's just because I don't know the first thing about networking... as you can tell, my computers are as solo as ever. See, if they network properly, I can surf from my Pentium II and use my Pentium-100 as my web server no problem. But right now, no such luck. I'm hoping to purchase a Pentium Pro 200mHz system 1ith 128 megs of RAM for a web server (a bit overpowered, but whatever) and a CD- RW writer for backup so I can back up my drives and install Linux on BOTH computers and then fiddle. Donations of intellectual thought would be welcome :) kkwan@globalserve.net. However, if you do not have any thoughts to donate, monetary funds would certainly be an acceptable substitute! (Just joking!) ----------------------------------------------------------------- END
