MOIST formed in Vancouver in 1993. They
released a self-titled tape [1500 copies in
total] as an independent band. They made a
video for PUSH for about $2 000, which received heavy
rotation on Much Music. In 1994 a follow up album titled Silver
came out (many of the songs that were on
the self-titled tape made it on the album), it
was also first released as an independent
album but in April of ’94 they were signed to
EMI Music Canada, and Silver was re-released.
That CD went quadruple platinum in
Canada. The same year they won best new band
at the Juno’s. The band then toured, and
toured, and toured. The album even reached the top 20
in the UK, and gold in Thailand. In 1996, the
guys relocated to Montreal, where they released
their second album, Creature. Creature has
known much success in their homeland
reaching triple platinum. It has taken them all
over Canada and back again.
