Clintwood 27 J. I. Burton 26

In usual fashion the Burton Raiders and the Clintwood Greenwave went down to the wire Friday night with the Wave pulling out a 27-26 win when they stuffed a Raider 2 point PAT with 2 minutes remaining.

Clintwood got on the board first when QB Brandon Green hit Brad Ramey with a 5 yard TD pass to make it 7-0 with Green's PAT in the 1st quarter. Burton answered in the 2nd quarter as Reggie Sensabaugh scored the 1st of his 4 TD's on a 18 yard run to make it 7-6 as the 2 point PAT failed. Jason Mullins soon stretched the lead back as he sped 68 yards on a run to make it 13-6 as the PAT was blocked. The Raiders were right back in it before the half was over as Sensabaugh went over from the 2 to make it 13-12 at the break as the PAT try Failed again...something that would haunt the Raiders.

The Raiders started the 2nd half by taking the lead as Sensabaugh went in from 6 yards out and added a 2 point PAT to put Burton up 20 - 13. It didn't last long though as Clintwood's Justin Hamilton took the ensuing kickoff at his 25 and 75 yards later was in the end zone to draw the Wave even at 20-20 as Green added the PAT. As things moved into the 4th quarter Brandon Green gave Clintwood the winning points as he hit WR Jeremy Fleming with a 22 yard TD pass to make it 27-20 as he also added the PAT. The Raiders weren't through as Sensabaugh, who on the night had 216 yards on 36 carries drew Burton back to within 1 at 27-26 when he scored from the 5 with 2 minutes to go. That set the stage for the dramatic 2 point PAT try, but the Wave defense was up to the task and stopped Sensabaugh. The Wave then recovered the onside kick to preserve the win. The Wave moves to 8-1 on the year and will face Pound next week, while the Raiders fall to 5-5 and will await a playoff bid.

Powell Valley 41 Coeburn 21

The Coeburn Blue Knights came to Bullitt Park and for 1 half of football gave the Powell Valley Vikings all they could handle and more. However, as other teams have found out it takes more than a couple of quarter to beat the Vikings. Much like the Gate City game last week, one of the Viking units carried the other for a while. This time it was the offense returning the favor as they kept pace with Coeburn until the Killer D returned to form in the 2nd half, and backup TB Josh Callahan rushed for 91 yards and a TD in place of Julius Jones after Jones went down with a bruised knee in the 1st half to lead the Vikings to win #22 in a row.

Coeburn got off to a fst start when Kendall Ward broke through to block a punt and Nick Jackson fell on it in the end zone for a 7-0 Coeburn lead as Justin Nixon added the PAT. PV came right back though by driving 80+ yards with Victor Williams taking it in from the 5 to draw even at 7-7 with J.T.Wells PAT. Coeburn came right back and with 11 minutes to go in the 2nd quarter WR Anthony Gray alertly picked up a twice deflected pass on 4th down from 23 yards out to put Coeburn back up at 14-7 with the PAT. PV answered back with 6 minutes to go when QB Jake Stepp threw the 1st of his 3 TD passes as he hit Vince Large from 21 yards out to make it 14-14. Coeburn bounced right back as Jason Nixon scored from 3 yards out to once again put Coeburn up 21-14. PV answered with 2:34 left in the half as Julius Jones scored from 8 yards out to make it 21-21. Then with about a minute remaining Jones was hit on the knee at the end of a 20 yard run and was lost for the rest of the game with what is believed to be a knee bruise. The Blue Knights went to the half tied at 21-21, Jones out, and lots of hope....

The 2nd half was a different game as the Killer D held Coeburn to 57 total yards and 0 points after giving up 160 yards and 2 TD in the 1st half. The Vikings opened the 3rd quarter up by moving to the Coeburn 19 but Stepp's pass was picked off at the 10. Coeburn handed the ball right back though as Nixon fumbled on the 15 & PV recovered. From there Stepp hit Mike Prewitt on a 15 yard TD pass to make it 27-21 as the PAT was wide. PV then forced a punt and after a clip on the return forced the Vikings to start from inside the 10, PV went on a grinding drive with Callahan doing most of the damage. Callahan capped the drive by going over from the 11 with 1:24 left in the 3rd to make it 34-21. The 4th quarter was much of the same with PV grinding out yardage on the ground .After having a brilliant TD punt return by PV's Jimmy Yonce nullified by a clip, the Vikings got the ball back and with 2minutes to go Josh Warren caught a 17 yard pass from Stepp and ran over a defender at the 1 to go into the end zone to make it the final of 41-21. With the win PV moves to 9-0 on the year and will face Appalachia next week, while Coeburn falls to 6-3 and will travel to Patrick Henry for their season final.

Pound 34 Whitewood 20

The Pound Wildcats assured themselves of at least a .500 season as they raced out to a 27-0 halftime lead and coasted to the win. TB Brandon Hubbard led the way with 165 yards and 2 TD. Hubbard got the Cats on the board in the 1st quarter when he went over from the 3 and Derek Hubbard hit the PAT to make it 7-0. In the 2nd quarter the Cats put the game away as Hubbard scored on an 18 yard run and QB Brandon Cantrell hit Adam Delforge on a 44 yard TD and Josh Tompkins on a 3 yard pass to make it 27-0 at the half. In the 3rd quarter after Whitewood intercepted a pass and returned it 51 yards for a TD to make it 27-6, Hubbard scored the Cats final TD of the night on a 4 yard run to make it 34-6 heading into the 4th. Whitewood tacked on a couple of scores against the reserves for a 34-20 final. With the win the Cats move to 5-4 and will host arch-rival Clintwood next week.

The Kelly Indians closed out the season on the road by losing at Marion 30-14. The Indians were hurt by special teams as Marion blocked a Kelly punt in the 1st quarter for a 7-0 lead.
