Powell Valley 42 Appalachia 7

The Powell Valley Vikings wrapped up their 2nd LPD title in a row as they traveled to Appalachia and easily dispatched the Dawgs 42-7. The game was decided early as the Dawgs took the opening kickoff and after moving to within a couple of yards of a 1st down decided to go for it from their own 37. The Killer D held and 6 plays later Victor Williams stepped in from 15 yards out to put PV on top 7-0 as JT Wells connected on the PAT. Later in the quarter Williams scored again from the 18 and it was 14-0 at the end of the 1st. In the 2nd quarter PV iced the game as Derrick Clark bolted 53 yards for a TD, Julius Jones sprinted 44 yards for one, Josh Callahan scored from the 1 after a long punt return by Jimmy Yonce and Travis Maddux capped the quarter by going in from 30 yards out. The half mercifully ended with PV on top 42-0. The 2nd half saw the Viking subs get plenty of action and the Dawgs Ken Joyner averted the shutout by scoring on a 2 yard run in the 4th quarter for a 42-7 final. The Dawgs were without outstanding fullback Josh Fleenor who was out with a knee. Julius Jones showed little effects from a knee injury last week as he finished with 93 yards on 3 carries in limited action. With the win PV moves to 10-0 on the season and have won 24 games in a row. The Vikings will play host to Honaker in the 1st round of the Region D Division 2 playoffs next Saturday. With the loss the Dawgs fall to 3-7, but still made it to the playoffs because of St. Paul's upset of Thomas Walker. The Dawgs will travel to Rye Cove for round 1 of playoff action.

Clintwood 41 Pound 0

The Clintwood Greenwave broke out of the doldrums Friday night by blasting Pound 41-0. The Cats came in looking to put the finishing touch on a fine season, but the Greenwave had plans of sharpening their game and took control from the outset. Brandon Green put the Wave's first points up when he scored from 5 yards out and added the PAT to make it 7-0 in the 1st quarter. Later in the 1st Justin Hamilton took it 15 yards to make it 13-0 as the PAT was missed. In the 2nd quarter Hamilton sprinted 44 yards to make it 21-0 at the half as Hamilton tossed a pass to Jon Stanley on a 2 point PAT. Clintwood iced the game when Stanley took the 2nd half kickoff back 78 yards for a TD to make it 28-0. Still in the 3rd, Hamilton scored on a 29 yard run and Green on a 29 yard run to make it 41-0 at the end of three quarters. The subs then played it out as Clintwood moves to 9-1 on the year and will travel to Haysi for the 1st round of playoff action next Saturday. Pound finishes at 5-5 in an outstanding season for new coach Rocky Baker.

Patrick Henry 45 Coeburn 21

Coeburn made the trip to Patrick Henry and were rudely welcomed by the Rebels as PH thrashed the Blue Knights 45-21. In a lackluster effort completely opposite of previous efforts Coeburn was only briefly in the game as Jaspn Nixon scored from the 3 to put Coeburn up 7-0 as Justin Nixon added the PAT. In the 2nd quarter PH took control and built a 17-7 halftime lead behind 2 TD's by Brandon Turner and a 21 yard FG. Coeburn was still in it as it was still 23-13 after 3 quarter, but the Knights ran out of gas in the 4th as PH put up 3 TD to make it a 45-21 final. Jason Nixon led Coeburn with 113 yards on 26 carries and 3 TD. With the loss Coeburn ends the season at 6-4 as does Patrick Henry.
