Jason's History..

Jason started his motor racing career about 12 months before he joined up with GRP, but was not able to get to the positions that he has enjoyed for the past 2 years.
After he joined up with us and with lots of hard work on his motor and suspension, he was able to improve his positioning in the fields.
With heaps of practise, patience, tuning of his motor and suspension, he was able to get to the pointy end of the field.
To the degree that he has been able to fight it out with the front runners.
This year,1999, he is stepping out of the Gems and venturing into Sports Sedans.
A new experience for all of us..

Jason's Day..
Oh Boy...What a week...After all the hassles of the last meeting... with the motor dropping a conrod...we sent the motor away to be machined and what not...we didnot get it back till late Thursday arvo..
So we only had a few hours to get it together and up and running for practise on Friday morning...
So after many hours and a couple of pizzas... we finally headed home at about 1.30am Friday morning...only to be at the track by 9.00am Friday...
Friday...Practise..
Practise started ok but by the time a few laps were under the belt..we discovered that the engine oil sump had sprung a leak...the pan had developed a split and was leaking oil everywhere...So a quick search was done and a mig welder appeared out of nowhere...After some cussing and many ouches...the split was finally welded up...
Back on the track and with Jason starting to lay down some good times... the support for the left hand side of the differential decided that it had had enough and gave way...so back to the pits and a quick repair job was carried out...
Getting back on the track...Jason gave it a good going over...but that gremlin struck again......lol...
Saturday...Practise...
With a chill in the air and Jason eager to do some good times... It was back to getting some good times in...but alas...the head gasket seemed to think it was not wanted and wanted out...
So again it was back to the workshop...
Saturday...Qualifying...
After doing some good times during practise...we all thought that we would get some really quick times in...but alas..that was not to be... this time the gear shift decided that it would not play the game...it decided to stick in 3rd gear...so it was back to the workshop...believe it or not...it was a small stone that jammed the cogs.. and dont ask how it got there...coz we just dont know...lol...
Sunday...Race day..
Race 1..
With all that had happened over the past few days...we were wondering what else could go wrong...For some reason...it didnot happen.... and Jason was at last able to get out there and mix it with the other drivers...he gridded in 6th position and finished in 5th position... Race 2..
After running well for 4 laps...that bloody gremlin struck again... a suspected faulty coil causing him to slow somewhat..but not enough to stop him from finishing in 5th spot again...
So now that the day is over..It will be back to the workshop and a complete rebuild will take place...ready for the next race in July...

At the end of his day...He finished up;
3rd in the Queensland Championship..
5th in the National Championship..
WELL DONE JAS.....
