I live in the village of Ballaugh in the Isle of Man. The Isle of Man is an Island approximately 30 miles x 10 miles, situated roughly in the middle of the Irish Sea. Our nearest neighbours are Scotland (to the North) and England (to the East), with Northern Ireland being away to the West, and Anglesey (Ynys Mon) and Wales being to the South.
I have lived in this village all my life, currently 36 years. I have moved house twice within the village!
Ballaugh is pronouced "Bal-Laff" (not "Balla -Ugh"!) The Manx Gaelic version of Ballaugh is "Balley-ny-Loughey". "Balley ny Loughey" means "homestead of the lake", a reference to the nearby "Curraghs" which were once a lake.
Ballaugh is famous for: Ballaugh Bridge on the "T.T. Course", Ballaugh Old Church at The Cronk,and The One-Stop Shop (built by my father!).
My hobbies and interests are: Archaeology, British History up to 1493 AD, Carlisle United Football Club, Arthur Ransome and his books, Ukiyo-e (a Japanese Art form), Celtic Music, and Rupert The Bear.
