First shown at 1997's E3, it was dubbed as a simple "Mario clone". And still today, that is what it is. Featuring Mario type controls, Mario type worlds (4 times larger, though), and an all original engine that feels like an advanced Mario engine, B-K is setting out to set the new high watermark in which all other 3-D platformers will be based. The graphics are crisp, colorful, cute, and extremely detailed, which we have come to expect from Rare. It features six huge worlds, including: Mumbo's Mountain, Treasure Trove Cove, Clanker's Cavern, Bubble-Gloop Swap, Gobi's Valley and Mad Monster Mansion. Each world is entirely different from the other. Each world has several objectives and puzzles. As explained in this excerpt from the Banjo-Kazooie preview from IGN64.com--
In Gobi's Valley, players find themselves in a room filled with over-turned tiles. Kazooie can nose-dive (very similar to Mario's butt-stomp) on a tile and it will turn right-side-up, revealing a design. Each tile has a matching design somewhere in the room. Banjo-Kazooie have 99 seconds to match designs for each tile. Remember the card games Concentration and Memory? Same thing here. In Mad Monster Mansion, Banjo and Kazooie drop into a room which is laid out somewhat like a Ouija board. A secret jigsaw puzzle piece can be obtained if players spell out the right word(s) in order. It's a lot of fun.

In some recent news, Banjo-Kazooie has been delayed from June 15 to June 30.
