Katie's Questions- Replies

Dearest Jareth,

I hope I speak for everyone when I say I am honored that you would visit our list. It is funny though, that I had been contemplating for the past few days if you were on the list. Did you read my thoughts? Can you read thoughts? Wow, I have so many questions. It would be easier if you would come to me so I can ask them all personally :) Will you? Well, let me try to include the most important ones. Did you love Sarah? If so, why? (Not meaning she's bad or anything) What do you find attractive in women? Was the crystal ballroom your dream, Sarah's, or a combination of both? Is there any way I can get to the labyrinth? Do you influence any earthly songwriters? I've heard songs that I could have sworn you've written. Can you take the list on a little tour of the labyrinth? (please, please, please?) Can you enter people's dreams, so that when they dream of you, it's actually you? Do you take any other forms other than an owl? Are you human? Well, I can keep asking questions forever, but I think that is enough for now, if I ever want to give you the time to answer. Why only 11 hours? You *can* be cruel!

If all of you hope to impress me with this adulation you are wasting your time. I am the Goblin King, after all, and I can get my subjects to grovel at my feet at my slightest whim.

It is our right to adulate you if we so desire and I doubt that you can get us to stop voicing our opinions that easily. Besides, I would think that *you* would enjoy beautiful girls admiring you. Sure you can get your subjects to grovel at your feet, but where is the challenge in that?

And anyone can summon me. I thought you'd know that much. You have yet to learn to ask the right question.

What is the right question or how can I learn it?

Katie ~who will still dream of the labyrinth even if it is not what I believe it to be. I can adapt~

Can you read thoughts?

Some. When it pleases me to. Wow, I have so many questions. It would be easier if you would come to me so I can ask them all personally :) Will you?

This is the sort of question that assumes I have not visited you. What if I have visited you and you just didn't realize it? Did you think you would always be able to recognize me?

Did you love Sarah?

She said the King of the Goblins fell in love with her. If you don't take her word for it, she is who is _ever_ so trustworthy, why should you take mine?

What do you find attractive in women?

Foolhardiness.

Was the crystal ballroom your dream, Sarah's, or a combination of both?

Both. Neither.

Is there any way I can get to the labyrinth?

This question, and others like it, make several assumptions I am intrigued you would make. Firstly, and this I have addressed before, that the Labyrinth is somehow a place one wants to go to, instead of a place one wants to leave, and quickly. If my methods have made the Labyrinth seem a playpen, I must needs alter them. I shall return to this subject anon in another response.

Do you influence any earthly songwriters? I've heard songs that I could have sworn you've written.

Did I write the songs in the movie or did David write them? Or perhaps neither of us. Many used to believe, and some still do, that songs are inspired by Something Else beyond the songwriter, which is why the Greeks deified their Muses. So perhaps what (or who) influenced my songs influenced others as well.

Can you take the list on a little tour of the labyrinth? (please, please, please?)

See above.

Can you enter people's dreams, so that when they dream of you, it's actually you? Do you take any other forms other than an owl? Are you human?

I take any form I wish (though I confess a certain fondness for the owl), and appear wherever I am summoned by those with the power to summon. If those are the characteristics of a human, than that is what I am.

Katie ~who, if you desire, would fear you, love you, do as you say, and be *your* slave~

My dear, I regret that having a slave does not interest me. I have my subjects; what need have I of slaves? The exciting prospect was offering to enslave myself, whether or not I would have later reneged on the offer. HRH JARETH. Scribe: Lady Angolin

No, my Goblin King, I have not assumed that you have not visited me. In fact, your statement furthers my belief that you have. But you have not revealed yourself as Jareth during those visits, and therefore I could not have the long discussion I so desire.

What do you find attractive in women? Foolhardiness.

Really? That is most intriguing, considering that you seem to be (okay, that phrase is asking for it, but oh well) giving us reasons not to come to the labyrinth. I'm a flattered that you care so, but I am determined to get get to the labyrinth, even if my desire is rash. It is my decision and even if it does lead to my eventual downfall, I must follow my dreams and face their consequences.

Why must you stay only 11 hours? Can you not reorder time for this? Oh, and here's a little story. My baby sister (1 and 1/2 years of age) was pulling my hair and the cord to my walkman. I told her to let go but to no avail. I told her, "Sarah (yes, her name is Sarah) let go, or I'll wish you away to the goblins. Do you want that?" She immediately let go and nodded vigorously yes. What do you think of this?

I apologize, that was my hormones speaking. I would not wish to be anyone's slave. I regret to say, not even yours. Although, if you want a challenge, I am always free. I may be more of a match for you than you may think.

Sweetest Dreams, Katie

I admit, I should probably read all my mail before I send responses, and I apologize for not including this in my previous message. What are your motives for being here on this list. I should not have assumed you were merely here for our enjoyment, although that would be most pleasant. I have a feeling though, that you will eventually let that answer be known for you were the one to bring it up, when we would have followed you blindly. It is because your presence demands such awe, even through telephone lines, that I sometimes do not think and take too much for granted, as much as I hate to admit it. And what are your plans for tonight? Do they have something to do with your motives? It's funny how my writing changes in these messages to you, you must bring out my best.

See you in the stars, Katie

Your Majesty, I'm not sure if I'm on time, for these damnable creations of two-way science called computers seem to be out to get me!

I am still here. I am on for another hour (until shortly after 11 PM central standard time--Angolin). Your choice of adjectives is interesting.

Why are you here? Being whom you are, it is not likely you would simply appear, answer questions and then disappear. From my knowledge of your complexity, you *always* have an ulterior motive. So, once again: Jeath, King of Goblins, why have you decided to *grace* the list with your presence? Love, Kethy

The list members are proving cleverer. I will address this soon. But first some unfinished business:

~who, if you desire, would fear you, love you, do as you say, and be *your* slave~ My dear, I regret that having a slave does not interest me.

I apologize, that was my hormones speaking. I would not wish to be anyone's slave. I regret to say, not even yours. What's said is said. You should know better than to make such an offer to one such as I in jest. I tend to take things literally.

What are your motives for being here on this list. I should not have assumed you were merely here for our enjoyment, although that would be most pleasant. I have a feeling though, that you will eventually let that answer be known for you were the one to bring it up, when we would have followed you blindly. It is because your presence demands such awe, Yes, yes--only who is doing the demanding and can the demand be then disregarded? even through telephone lines, that I sometimes do not think and take too much for granted, as much as I hate to admit it. And what are your plans for tonight? Do they have something to do with your motives? It's funny how my writing changes in these messages to you, you must bring out my best.

See you in the stars, Katie My motive for coming here today was to learn what all of you wish to know about me. Now the assumption is that I have sufficient motive for being truthful when I answer your question. This is another assumption I find fascinating, in its own way. Perhaps you trust I will tell the truth because you haven't much experience dealing with those who lack a moral code. You have to assume that, in most cases, when you ask a question of someone, they will answer truthfully; otherwise the framework of your society crumbles. I have no such responsibility nor regard for society and thus feel little compulsion to be truthful. So where does that leave you? You can accept what I say at face value, reject it entirely, or decide it may be a partial truth that does not tell the whole story--in which case you must ask more questions to see if they prove beneficial. It is certainly your right and your privilege which I have no intention of negating. Just do not think it impresses me. There is no more challenge in beautiful girls admiring me than in having my subjects grovel at my feet. What makes you think there is?

And anyone can summon me. I thought you'd know that much. You have yet to learn to ask the right question. What is the right question or how can I learn it?

You asked me if anyone can summon me. What you really wanted to know was whether or not I would answer the summons, did you not?
