Senate budget cuts

The House voted Tuesday to approve the Senate's budget plan. Some of the cuts include:

$117.8 million from public schools

$106.6 million from the state university system, which includes: $742,754 from the Florida State University medical school; and $156,000 each from the Florida A&M University and the Florida International University law schools

$46.9 million from work-force development

$37.5 million from community colleges

$27.5 million by eliminating the citrus canker tree compensation program

$22.5 million from the prescription assistance program for the elderly

$20 million from transportation

$14.5 million from the Tobacco Pilot Program

$8.6 million from private colleges and universities

$7 million by using the KidCare Program surplus

$6.3 million in savings from improved fraud and abuse enforcement activities

$5 million by eliminating a school readiness reserve

$5 million by eliminating the Full Service Schools Program

$4.6 million from student financial assistance

$4.6 million by reducing prices paid to pharmacies for Medicaid drugs

$4 million by eliminating funding for construction of the veterans' nursing home in Charlotte County

$1.9 million from beach management construction projects

$1.7 million by reducing a new nursing home diversion pilot initiative

$1.6 million by reducing rates paid for the physician Medipass case management

$1.5 million from vocational rehabilitation

$1.3 million by eliminating rate increases for physicians, home health and institutional pharmacists

$800,000 by eliminating the Ticket to Work program

$600,000 by eliminating the state's portion of the rural health program
