When I Close My Eyes In Sleep
An inner voice, my conscious, mine,
Thou preparest my soul O' Lord Divine.
At last my weary heart is free.
For in this hour tranquility.
Darkness draws nigh, as solace creep,
I will close my eyes in peaceful sleep.
In the morn, I will not wake,
My Savior calleth my soul to take.
I leave my rhyme or just impart,
and caress the soul of poetry's heart.
Remember me, not dust to dust
but a friend, or voice left to entrust.
