Hang on it's coming....

Sunderland Football Club to the true supporter is the air we breathe, the food we eat and the god we worship. From as early as we could kick a ball until the day we pass into that substitutes bench in the sky we remain 100% loyal to our red and white striped bit of England. Peter Reid's Red and White Army are the strongest force in the first division. Match this with the fierce loyalty of almost 40,000 fans at the Stadium of Light, week in week out and you have a hell of a firepower to play with.

Since I moved from Sunderland to the South East in 1980 I have worn my Sunderland shirt with pride and held my head high during lows at Gillingham, Wimbledon and Wembley last seasom, the highs of promotion, and cup final attendances however unsuccessful. This season we're going to show just what we're made of and jump straight back into the Premiership - FACT !!

To the true Sunderland supporter, our team and our spirit is our lifeblood. There is no substitute for the real love that runs through our veins and the passion and pride we hold in our hearts as we stand united, red and white rebels shouting loud and proud "We are Sunderland - We are Sunderland"...

Update - Wednesday 3rd February

After travelling to Watford on Saturday and being driven into by another Sunderland supporter en-route, writing both vehicles off and giving a couple of my red and white clad passengers whiplash - we eventually arrived in a cold and wet Watford.

After enjoying the culinary delights of the local chippy we made our way to the ground to enjoy the "delights" of Watford FC, namely three unicyclists, Henry and Henrietta the Hornets and the Hornet dancers (all of whom fit the stereotypical description of NUFC supporters as dictated by the honourable Mr Hall himself). Where was Samson ????? My eight year old 24-7 son was very upset at not getting his picture taken...

After a late start the Rookery End stand where about 8,000 travelling SAFC fans were sat erupted in singing only to be jeered and abused by a contingent of the Watford fans, some of whom enjoyed themselves so much they were carried out by the boys in blue who got clobbered in the process.

The pitch itself was very impressive, and played well considering how wet it was. Sunderland went a goal down but recovered through a Niall Quinn special, and half time came around with our contingents votes cast on the Lads getting a couple of goals back to win 3-1. How wrong could we have been.

After a poor start with Watford dominating the marking and passing of the ball and some great saves by Mr Sorenson our hero of a goalkeeper whose bravery at the feet of opposing attackers fills all of us with admiration, Watford grabbed another goal. It was nowhere near as good as described by the press or Mr Taylor.

Sunderland, caught off guard never got the momentum back, although Messrs Quinn, Bridges, Johnson, and especially Mickey Gray did themselves proud. Maybe taking McCann off who tried hard but never got into the swing of things as opposed to substituting Andy Melville who played his heart out and bringing on Bridges for Super Kev at half time would have made a difference but who is to say ? All of us know how hard a job Peter Reids team are doing and they make the decisions for us and we back them week in week out. Teams like Watford, see the arrival of teams like us as something to work harder for. This was their largest gate in three years and we went home gutted and empty.

What a day, my eight year old had got through the match pretending he was okay and ending up in hospital later to be treated for Whiplash injuries suffered before the game. He didn't want to cry or be upset before the game in case I wouldn't take him... What does that say about the support that even kids in the 24-7 feel for their club ??

Roll on this weekend - we need to get back on target and remember that we've suffered the playoffs and missed chances before - this is our time, the millenium year and the rebirth of Sunderland - not just the club but the community. We've got what it takes and we've got the ability to push this division harder than any other club. We are quality - supported by the best fans in the world.

If you want to contribute a link please email me, any comments are welcome too.... No more death threats from Toon Army fans thanks, you have all of our sympathies. Get yourself down to the club shop and get decked out in red and white before it's too late. When you get to the pearly gates you'll see St Peter dressed in his Lambton shirt (away strip like, but it still counts..). Everyone knows God supports Sunderland. You'll all have to answer in the end.... Haway the lads.

My gran aged 88 who still supports SAFC, me, my son Adam both of us bedecked suitably as you'd expect.....

"Remember ... Sleep well... Don't have nightmares !!"

The songs below are a crammer for Sunderland supporters all over the world.

Daydream Believer (Cheer Up Peter Reid - The Lyrics)

Oh I could fly without wings
On the back of Reidy's kings
At three o'clock I'm happy as can be
Cos the good times they are here
And the Premiership is near
So watch out world as all of Roker sings

Chorus
Cheer up Peter Reid
Oh what can it mean
To a Sunderland supporter
To be top of the league

We once thought of you
As a Scouser dressed in blue
Now you're red and white through and through
We had all dreamt of the day
When a saviour would come our way
And now we know our dreams are coming true

Chorus

Sunderland Girls (Sung to the tune of "California Girls" by the Beach Boys)

Southwick girls are sexy,
And the Hylton girls are hip,
And the Farringdon girls are foxy,
When they're giving you their lip.

Downhill girls are daring,
And the Tunstall girls are tops,
And you can't go wrong
With Suzy Wong
And she comes from Marley Potts.

Chorus
I wish they all could be from Sunderland
I wish they all could be from Sunderland
I wish they all could be Sunderland girls

If You Hate Newcastle Clap Your Hands

If you hate Newcastle clap your hands,
(clap, clap)
If you hate Newcastle clap your hands,
(clap, clap)
If you hate Newcastle, hate Newcastle
Hate Newcastle clap your hands,
(clap, clap)

Singin i-i-ippy-f**k the mags!
Singin i-i-ippy-f**k the mags!
Singin i-i-ippy, i-i-ippy I-i-ippy-f**k the mags!

F**k right off!

Blaydon Races Remix (sung to the tune of Blaydon Races)

Wor me lads, you should have seen them gannin
Sheppard and Hall where having a ball,
They said in the Sunday papers,
The fans are shite, their not too bright
The lasses have ugly faces,
Oh what a terrible stench there is,
In the boardroom at St James

The toon's enraged, they've been betrayed,
They want a resignation,
The shares they fell because of the smell,
Nationwide their destination,
And further down south,
Peter Reid is planning a celebration,
Promotion to the premier league and
Newcastle's relegation

Wor me lads, all the toons a gannin
Gannin across St James Park,
To see the public hanging
Shepard and Hall, strung up by the balls
With a pair of Keegans laces
Oh what a beautuful thing to see
Their smiles wiped off their faces
