There are hushed places where the earth can be seen to breathe imperceptibly, in sound waves that shake the leaves gently from the trees. Quiet places where amorphous, whispy dawnings cry out the earth's last warnings as another forest lies down, another species unknown. But for awhile a blade of grass will glisten and push aside the shadows to catch man's attention. What were the words I heard? Carried on the wind as it stirred. Ah! 'There is still time,' said earth to save me from death. 'If you will only listen.' (c) Joan Parker
Joan Parker writes short stories, articles, "pieces" and poetry. Several of her stories have been read on ABC radio, and some of her work has been published in Famous Reporter, Arts Tasmania and the Examiner newspaper. She started writing about 8 years ago for the pleasure of it, and has "a long suffering husband, 2 adult daughters, 1 disobedient beagle, and an old cat."
