THE STIRRING

There are hushed places
where the earth can be seen to breathe
imperceptibly,
in sound waves
that shake the leaves
gently from the trees.

Quiet places
where amorphous, whispy dawnings
cry out the earth's last warnings

as another forest lies down,
another species unknown.

But for awhile
a blade of grass will glisten
and push aside the shadows
to catch man's attention.

What were the words I heard?
Carried on the wind as it stirred.

Ah!

'There is still time,' said earth
to save me from death.

'If you will only listen.'
