NEW YORK -- Stanford star point guard Jamila Wideman, the Most Valuable Player of the NCAA Women's West Regional, has signed with the Women's National Basketball Association, the league announced Monday.

The 5-6 Wideman, who was the subject of a recent cover story by Sports Illustrated, is now eligible for the league's draft on April 28.

"In addition to having outstanding basketball skills, Jamila has tremendous appeal as a leader and a role model, and we are thrilled that she will be part of the WNBA," league president Val Ackerman said.

Wideman, who is from Amherst, Massachusetts, was a first-team All-Pac-10 player for the Cardinal this season. She averaged 8.6 points, five assists and 2.3 steals per game. A starter and captain four years, Wideman is third on Stanford's all-time list with 585 assists and 255 steals. Stanford made the Final Four each of the last three years.
