This extra credit project requires you to spend one week without consuming any media! You are to spend one week without watching television, listening to the radio, or interacting with any type of media other than the newspaper (I recommend the New York Times). You will then do a 3-5 page write up on your experience.

DUE DATE: December 11, no later than 5:00 pm. NO EXCUSES!

LENGTH: The paper should be 3-5 pages in length. All extra credit papers must be computer generated - no hand written, ragged edged paper.

FORMAT: You must keep a daily journal during your media fast. You will then be able to use it when reflecting for your write up. You will want to address the following questions: How much can you avoid media and advertising in your everyday interactions? Is it easy or difficult to do this? Did you find yourself in silence fequently? Was your fast a good thing or a bad thing? How did you spend your time? How did you develop perceptions about the social events that occured in this time period. Would you ever do this voluntarily? Why or why not? How did other peope in your life react to your media fast? Having fasted from media for one week, what are your thoughts on how the media may, or may not, shape our thinking and behavior? Which theoretical explanation would you say best describes the influence of media on individuals?
